The Rematch/No Rematch Thread

No Rematch

meeech may or may not be the 2nd best team. They had their chance, in fact they have had one a year for the last 3 years.
Bring on Fla. or USC

I totally agree, the chances of another match-up with scUM are about as good as the lucky ticket holders of the Ohio Lottery Pick 4, who had the winning number 4-2-3-9 yesterday, of winning that again. Payout was $2.2 million. I will call my brother-in-law in Thousand Oaks and get a California Lottery ticket instead with the Pick 4 numbers of 4-2-1-4. Seems like the right thing to do.

:osu: Big Ten Champs should meet another conference champ like USC to open this up a little.

Go Buckeyes.

Personally, I cannot think of a worse philosophical disaster than a rematch with Michigan. I said the same thing before the game when it was conceivable tOSU would lose. Winner to NC, loser to Rose or wherever.

First of all, a rematch would demean the 100 yr. plus tradition of the ANNUAL battle between the two teams.

Second, it is an ultimate "lose" situation for the Bucks. If we were to win, ho hum! If they win, yesterday's win would be relegated to the trash heap of history.

Third, the NC game should be between conference champions. This is not March Madness where it is conceivable that same conference teams might end up in the final game. Of course, the much ballyhooed "playoff" type system might have the same problem, unless it were structured deliberately to avoid it.

Michigan had its chance. A matchup with USC, Fla., Ark, or even (ugh) the Domers is much to be preferred to a rematch. I hope the coaches realize this and vote accordingly. (Apparently the Sagarin has already come out with scUM as #2).

Go Bucks!

I'd have to agree with the commentators last night: Who else but Michigan? The other one loss teams just don't stand up...

That said. let's hope USC wins out, though another ass kicking of the Irish would be sweet to contemplate. Of course I'm worried about a game with the Irish. Weiss would have had a year to get ready. Quinn will be pissed because he didn't win the Heisman and the OSU D-line got his uniform all dirty and there's no way the Ohio State corners, Tattoo, Mini Me and Mr. Magoo, could ever cover Alphabits and the other Notre Dame receivers...

As for regional versus national, I learned my lesson last year. OSU - ND happened because the money guys in the TV world wanted it to happen. I apparently was the only one in the world who thought that Notre Dame was a midwest team. OSU - U of M could easily become a reality if the money guys want it to happen. Right now the Big Ten has three potential BCS teams. spread out over three games that brings in a bunch of money for the league. If you put OSU and Michigan into one bowl doesn't that reduce the league's national exposure? Suppose we played and beat USC and Michigan defeated florida in the Rose Bowl, wouldn't that put the two teams One and Two? Would it not reduce the total haul in money the league would take in if we had The Game re-duex? I think it would certainly lower the level of Wisconsin's bowl bid.

Ultimate "lose" for the Bucks?! How about for Michigan?? If we win a rematch, you guys would be SCREAMING (and who could blame you?) that it's no better than a split title. It'd be forever tainted, because the teams played to a 1-1 and Michigan was just fortunate enough to win the second one instead of the first one. (Of course, I'd take the line that everyone plays under the same system, it's a level playing field, and OSU just didn't get it done when it counted. But deep down, I'd know it's kinda phony.) And if we lose? :bonk: Losing twice to OSU in one season would make it the most forgettable season ever. "Ho hum" my a**. You guys would be living it up after that. Unbearable. We can't win a rematch, even if we're ahead on the scoreboard when the final gun sounds. I agree with everything else you said - NO THANKS to a rematch. It would diminish the regular season.

Troy Smith becomes the first QB to beat Michigan 4 times

I hate the idea of a rematch game for the national championship, but I was wondering if any Buckeye fans might like to see it.

My feelings are that we've already beaten Michigan once, and there is no reason why we should have to prove ourselves again. However, it would be sweet for Troy Smith to become the only quarterback to have beaten Michigan 4 different times.

I would hate to see a repeat matchup in the national championship game take away from the importance of the annual regular season Ohio State - Michigan game. That having been said, bring it on. Ohio State would not have a -3 turnover margin if they played Michigan again.

Troy doesn't have to prove anything else to Michigan.

We all know a playoff would be the better system in college football, and assuming this was that type of game, Michigan got played off.

If this was truly the Game of the Century, why eliminate its importance by playing it again?

for a change i somewhat agree with u.our rivalry is special and a season in its own right.a rematch is for the media hype and folks outside of our region.michigan had there chance and lost fair and square.right now we are #1 until some one we havent beaten proves otherwise!

If there's a rematch...

Then that great game we watched yesterday was absolutely meaningless. 81 meaningless points. 800-plus meaningless yards. 105,00-plus meaningless fans. 2 months worth of meaningless hype.

As I stated in another thread, if there were a playoff, Michigan just got eliminated. But college football's system of picking a national champion is so FUCKED UP, that apparently they get double-elimination, while we can still be singularly eliminated. Total Bullshit.

IMO, the only way scUM deserves a rematch is if BOTH Florida and USC lose another game. In that case, you could argue that they would be a legitmate #2 and be much more deserving than ND, who they spanked.

With that being said, Arkansas could have a good argument if they win out. I believe they would have to beat both LSU and Florida, and, to me, that would make them deserving of a shot at the NC.
