The Rematch/No Rematch Thread

Unfortunately, it seems that none of the other NC "contenders" really want to remain in contention. There is still a lot of football to play, and it may end up that scUM is the only major 1-loss team when the dust finally settles. God, I hope it doesn't end up that way though - for all the reasons that have already been stated.

well I don't foresee USC losing to UCLA, but they could lose to Notre Dame. Notre Dame could end up with only one loss as well as bad as that sounds.

I don't think ND would jump over Michigan IMO.

That said if Florida is the winner of the SEC, they should only have that one loss to Auburn.

Ummm, now you're sounding just like Mike Hart, considering osu did just make 3 bonehead turnovers.
u and mikey should know we would not make those same three boners if u had to play us again.which means next time its a route.oh and thanks for the bulletin board material if we do play in the nc game.

ESPN is pimping this rematch thing BIGTIME now.

Everybody who's been on air in the last forty minutes has called for a rematch at one point or another. How long until this thing reaches critical mass and the rematch is fulfilled because that's what all the coverage and analysis is pointing to?

In your opinion... Who is the best 1 loss team in the nation? When you think about it, it's not really about the rematch. It's about who deserves to be in the national championship game. I think Michigan is the second best team in the nation bar none. Is it fair to us? No. but it is fair to college football.

On thinking about it I look for this to take care of itself. When the other major conferences had no undefeateds there was little choice but to vote OSU and UM 1-2. But why would media and coaches from the SEC and PAC 10 continue to vote for two Big Ten teams? UM will be no higher than 4th. If Arkansas beats Florida they could jump them. If ND beats USC they could do the same. It will be interesting to see how the computers rate things, but I don't believe that will overcome the human polls.

Roll Trojans.

simv, as much as i hate to say it, i agree. as of right now scUM is better than all other 1 loss teams. we'll have to see how things play out but there is a good chance we see these fuckers again. damn it though, i hope we don't. i want USC.

this is why the rematch is BS unless there are really special circumstances:

1) for ohio state to win the national title, you would be asking them to beat their biggest rivals TWICE

2) for michigan to win the national title, you would only be asking them to beat their biggest rivals ONCE

case closed. unfair (and it's not like the NFL b/c this isn't a playoff system. the regular season matters JUST AS MUCH as the bowls b/c a loss anywhere knocks you out of title contention, whereas in the NFL you can go 11-5 like pittsburgh in the regular season and still run through the playoffs). only way for rematch i would see is if ND is the only other 1-loss team.

Anyone who played football as a kid knows that there are no do-overs.

Fuck Michigan, they better not screw the pooch in Pasadena.

Nothing good would come of a UM rematch. An OSU victory, again, would prove to be an ignorant waste of a title game. A UM victory would result in a split or controversial consensus title.

The media/pollsters LOVE notre dame. Whoever wins their matchup with SC should get plenty of love as a result. Given the way Quinn's heisman candidacy has gone, I could see pollsters ignoring their head to head beatdown if ND were to win.

Florida should trash Florida State. Arkansas has to survive #9 LSU. Yikes.
If they can both win next week, UM should be headed to Pasadena.

I say leave it to the USC/ND game too. If USC wins out, they're deserving enough to get a shot at OSU. If ND pulls the upset, we can hand OSU a NC this year I suppose :wink2: I wouldn't mind seeing this game again actually if theres a lot of yards put up again, it'd be exciting at the very least.

USC is better than anybody Wisconsin has beat.
SC has also beaten 7 teams from BCS conferences with winning records, M has beaten 3. if SC wins out, they will have 9 wins against BCS teams with winning records. the bottom line is that despite the loss to unranked Oregon State, SC's body of work is arguably better than M's...
