The Rematch/No Rematch Thread

Once was enough!

Seriously though, I think the widespread talk of a rematch has been largely overhyped. We had our head-to-head shot today, tOSU prevailed, and I certainly don't expect any favoritism from the pollsters. Our regular season(s) are over; but we won't have the complete picture until December 2nd. I think a number of fans arguing for a rematch are selfishly doing so in the present rather than waiting for the remaining puzzle pieces to be put in place. Frankly, and despite a great contest in Columbus, I don't think we did a great deal to distinguish ourselves from the existing 1-loss contenders. It ain't over!

Wisconsin doesn't deserve a BCS spot. They beat nobody this year. If ND beats USC, they would deserve it by far over the Badgers.
Every one of the teams ahead of Wisconsin, save tOSU and scUM have easily loseable games before the end of the season. Follow this one...
Arkie loses to LSU, Florida loses to FSU. USC loses to Cal, beats Notre Lame. Rutgers loses to Cinci, beats WVU. Wisconsin finishes in the top 5. Likely, no....possible, yes. But either way, Notre Lame doesn't deserve a BCS game this year. They have played one good team thus far, and they got their asses handed to them through their mouths. USC is blah, but I guess that would be a quality win for them.

Brilliant post, by the way.

I had a feeling there might be some such clause. How about Wisconsin finishes #5 in the BCS, but because of tOSU and scUM, they go to the capital one bowl. Then we watch Boise State play Notre Lame in the worst BCS bowl game ever.
BCS ROOOOOOLS:bonk:

Well, the BCS has never been about who "deserved" to be in the games. First and foremost, the BCS is a revenue sharing agreement between the six major conferences - hence the two-team stipulation.

scUM took on tOSU at home and only lost by a field goal in a game with, what?, 11 touchdowns. It's hard to imagine another team being able to claim they could try harder than that for the national championship.

Besides, beating them again in January would be like                                 !!

USC is better than anybody Wisconsin has beat.

As far as I'm concerned, the only teams with an argument strong enough to keep themselves ahead of scUM and prevent a rematch are Southern Cal and Florida.

There is now way Notre Dame should be ahead of scUM at all, and no way Arkansas should end up ahead of USC - because of what happened on the field. If you get blown out like they did - on your home field no less - you go to the back of the line.

As a matter of personal preference, the only way I want Southern Cal to win out is to keep the rematch scenario from unfolding. I really don't want them in the NC game. I'm tired of them. I'd like a crack at Florida.

Dadgummit, that was my whole argument, too.....that USC is better than anybody Wisconsin beat.

Or maybe my whole point was that the BCS REWELS, because you could have a 1 loss Big 10 team go to a second teir bowl game while Notre Lame played Boise State in a BCS game, while not even mentioning that Rutgers could be playing in a BCS game as well.

I'd like to see Florida too. After watching the LSU game last week and listening to the announcers talking about tOSU and scUM not being that much better than 2 loss LSU, while blowing sunshine up the SEC's ass all night.

No rematch for me. Not unless somehow Michigan could have been the only other one-loss team in the country, which is impossible since USC beat Cal. (I'm not counting Wisconsin.) It'll be either Florida or USC now, I think. Michigan fans who want a rematch really aren't stopping to think about it. Only one of two things can happen. Best-case, we win the rematch and gain a very questionable (and possibly split) national title, and all the playoff BS starts right back up. Worst-case, two losses to OSU in one season - barf. No thanks. I'm sick about losing this game, but there's worse fates than a likely Rose Bowl berth against a good but beatable Cal team.

I hope mike hart reads this because comments like he made was way off.they played tough but watch the tape besides the third quarter we was in control of the game the whole time.osu never makes three bone head turnovers like that.what makes him think the outcome would be different next time in the nc game?

Ummm, now you're sounding just like Mike Hart, considering osu did just make 3 bonehead turnovers.
