Wasn't it just 2 years ago when we were ranked #1 and had a record for most consecutive big ten wins and regular season wins? The breaks haven't gone our way...but our last three big games, PSU, Texas, and USC have all come down to one play. That's all a great coach can do, is put his players in a position to win. Sometimes it doesn't happen. We went 32 years without a national championship...and now that it's been 7, people are going crazy. This team has TWO huge games left this year, both on the road. I'm pretty sure Coach Tressel will have the team prepared for both of the games, as well as the rest of them. Especially the rest of them. When is the last time Ohio State lost a game to a team that didn't go to a BCS bowl? I may be wrong, but I think it was 2004. Find another coach that can say that? He wins the ones we should, and lately we've been in all the games that are considered big time games. Remember? Texas and USC weren't supposed to even be close. I can't wait to see how this season unfolds.

Last coach to win back to back Big Ten championships???? Woody Hayes. This year we go for 5...Woody got 6. I think Tressel can match that record...how about you?

I can't tell you how sad it makes me to think that Coach Tressel might feel guilty for anything he has done at Ohio State. I don't think when you consider everything he has done to shape the integrity of this program that you can even argue that there is a better coach in America.

I would rather loose under Tressel's leadership than win under anyone else. This is our state. This is our team. This is our ball coach. There is no Ohio State without the sweater vest.

So... a few years back, a colleague with a bizarre obsession with some college football team used to drag me to his computer every day to experience some new wonder - D'Andrea's wingspan, someone's 40 time ("Is that good?"), or as the year went through, detailed descriptions of some crazy game that almost gave him a heart attack before it turned out great, but don't get your hopes up because it's a long season you know...

This was all presented with an enthusiasm that was fun to watch, but eh, still football, and let's just say my impressions of football culture weren't particularly positive. Then there was the discussion of a coach who hadn't been there long but was doing some great things, on and off the field. Out came the articles, the quotes, the Block O of Life, the discussions of renewed emphasis on academics and player development. I started to see that the game was much more involved than my own meager experience with sports would suggest. I thought about the kids in my programs, spending 7 or 8 hours a day at the piano, auditioning for competition after competition, and the intensity of college auditions and choices. Suddenly I didn't see a difference between the football players and recruits and my kids. It wasn't a matter of fun and games for one group and hard work for the other. They were all striving and pushing themselves well beyond what most of us would even contemplate in pursuit of excellence.

It's fair to say I was a Tressel fan before I was a Buckeye fan, and the one opened up the possibility of the other. And I greatly appreciate the favor. Thank you; I'm enjoying the ride.

As an Ohio State football fan, I find this thread to be completely ridiculous, yet, completely necessary, and I commend "LJB" for starting it.

Simply put, if any "brainiac" out there has a better name that they would like to be Coaching our kids right now, tomorrow, next year, or 5-10 years from now, I'd love to hear about that guy. Coach Tressel and TOSU are a perfect fit. People who bash on Coach T are the same ones who bashed (or if they were older would have bashed) Coach Hayes back in the early-mid 70's. It's sometimes easy, I guess, to "assume' that being the "best" is just something you go out and do. Every week, our Buckeyes line up against a group of extremely talented athletes who want to win a football game just as bad as our kids do. And, under Coach T's tenure, he's done a damn good job of bringing out the best in his players every time they've taken the field. That's what Big-Time and Big-Ten football are all about.

I hope Coach is here until the day he decides that he doesn't want to be here, and only for retirement purposes. In my book, he'll always be respected, admired, and loved as OUR Coach.

Coach Tressel - what many people do not realize is that you are much more to The Ohio State University than a football coach. You're a representative. You're the best damn representative in the land. We're pleasured and honored to have you as the face of our university. I can think of no other person I'd rather see leading, influencing and motivating OSU students, alumni and fans around the world. You have my support 110%, you have from the beginning, and always will.

Just keep in mind that back in the 1950's, the student section once sang "We come to sing Ohio's praise, and say goodbye to Woody Hayes". There has always been a segment of this fan base that's has unrealistic expectations and sought to run coaches out of town on a rail, and it's gone on for generations. This too will pass.

Amen. People think the grass is always greener. I myself am quite happy with a NC and a 7-1 record against scUM.

I'm a huge fan of coach Tress. Stay true to yourself, coach. Your effort and accomplishments will be greatly appreciated by the true fans who understand sports and life.

This past August will probably be my last trip to Ohio and i say it with much sadness. I spent most of my younger days learning and growing in the Youngstown area and have great fond memories of what i learned there and what i have come away with. My class of 59' at Austintown Fitch held our 50th class re-union and i came away with such great memories that the drive back to Jacksonville was very melancholy and it seemed to take forever to get to my home. But from all the memories i have, i would like share just one with you that i think will sum it all up of what i feel for Jim Tressel and always will. This may be lenghty and i apologize for that.

In February of 89 there was a dinner banquet ceremony honoring the Sportsmen of the Year which happened to be Bernie Kosar. It was very expensive to say the least but i paid anyway. I rubbed elbows with so many stars and dignitaries that night and the one that struck me the most was a person standing all alone minding his own business. I recognized him and went over to extend a greeting and support for the coming years at YSU. At the time Youngstown State was not very popular in the win column and many YSU fans were voicing there displeasure of Jim Tressel asking him to go back to Columbus where he came from. He thanked me for the greeting and well wishes and signed my program. I was happy to have that moment to myself with him. Not many people cared to know who he was but i had a good feeling about this man. Since then i have had many moments with Jim in his journey to the road of sucess and what he has become today in the sporting world of Ohio Football and the good city of Columbus.

But i am proud of those memories of what i knew of him then and i will always feel that way for Jim Tressel. Alot of good people from Youngstown are no longer there because of job opportunitys and age has taken its toll as well. But there are still a great number of good people who live up in Youngstown and what a great little city it still is. But i can say with all honesty, that Jim Tressel has left his mark on the great city of Youngstown Ohio. Thanks Jim for all of that. Thanks.
