The Official Support for Coach Tressel Thread

I'll never forget that I was getting ready for Coach Tressel's first game as the Ohio State head coach (September 8, 2001) and my wife called me upstairs to tell me we were pregnant with our first child. Kick off was about 3 minutes away and we were upstairs hooting and hollering. I'll always have that memory inextricably linked with Ohio State football and Coach Tressel.

When I moved to Columbus from Youngstown in 1996 I told anyone who would listen that if Ohio State wanted to win a national championship they would hire Jim Tressel. Well he certainly made me look like a genius didn't he.

I can't think of another coach that I would want to be the face of Ohio State.

Thank you Coach Tressel.

7-1 vs SCUM
1 National Title(3 title game appearances)
7 BCS Bowl Game appearances
1 Heisman winning QB, many other award winnners
An average of nearly 8 players drafted in to the NFL every year.

He's done enough in my eye's to be here as long as he wants. There isn't a coach who I would want more than Coach Tressel as our head coach. I think Troy Smith said it best when he said this about Tressel, "It takes a man to teach a man how to be a man."

I posted in this thread yesterday but after thinking about it I realized how strange it is that we even HAVE this thread. Look at what CentralMOBuck posted. Are we so spoiled as a fanbase that we feel that this is not good enough? We have to win every game every year to be satified? Now...of course I would like to win all of the time but it's not that easy...there are many other programs who are trying to accomplish the same thing. I think Coach Tressel and the Buckeyes have more than held their own over the long haul. The Buckeyes and us,as Buckeye fans, have spent the last 2 or 3 years getting nothing but (mostly unwarranted) criticism from the rest of the country. The last thing we need is to have significant (mostly unwarranted) criticism come from within our own fan base.. scUM fan would love nothing more than that. None of us like it when the Buckeyes lose and certainly it's frustrating.... but they've won a whole lot more than they've lost and given us many more good moments than bad ones. Like I said yesterday...the grass isn't always greener and I,personally, think there's very few people(if any) who would do a better job than Coach Tressel. Sorry for the length....just had to get that off of my chest, lol. Go Bucks!

I fully support Coach Tressel, and there is not another person in the world I would want coaching and teaching the program, Coach Tressel not only teaches his players how to be winners in football, but how to be winners in life. Thats what makes him great.:osu:

Coach-
I, as a fan, have five goals for the head coach of The Ohio State University:

  1. Represent the University and the State with class and excellence
  2. Run a clean program (both from the NCAA and legal perspective)
  3. Graduate players, or provide them the opportunity to get a job (go pro)
  4. Influence players and others impacted by the program to be better people
  5. Beat Michigan (1-11 is something I can live with, as long as that one win is the one that matters).
While it's unreasonable for a fan to have goals for a coach that they will never meet, I want you to know how thankful I am that you have exceeded each of these beyond my ability to describe.

Thank you for your faithful service to the students, student athletes, alumni, and fans of Ohio State. Yours is an example that many should follow.

Tressel

I've caught some slack for some of the things I've said on this site but I wanted to say without a doubt that Jim Tressel deserve all of our respect and support. He is a tireless gentleman and his work ethic is unquestionable. He is Ohio, and he quantifies everything that is good about Ohio State. The people that are guilty of bashing him and his coaching staff are very simply as Coach Tressel put it "unhappy people" and I for one want no association with their "unhappiness". Win or lose Jim Tressel has done more for Ohio State then anyone could ever imagine and he deserves an endless ovation from everyone.

This is a scary thread. Why does it even exist? We should have an "Official Fire Coach Tressel Thread" and anyone who posts in the thread gets a big fat punch in the face!!! The only people who wouldn't support JT root for that scUMbag of a team that resides north of the border. Peace!

Love the top point "7-1 vs. SCUM"

That, to me, pretty much spells it out. But, is Coach becoming a victim of his own success. Back when Bucknuts was a cool place, I remember posting something right after the 2002 NC that no matter what Coach T accomplished in his time here, that it would NEVER top 2002. And basically, it never will. To the idiots out there who take things for granted, think of this:
Since Coach T showed up here, he has won 7 games and only lost one to the most bitter rival that "B" could ever be to "A." Now, think of it this way, in Coach Hayes' storied career here, he had one helluva run against SCUM from 1957 to 1968. His three greatest 8 year runs were 6-2 (1957 to 1964) and 6-2 (1960-1967) and 6-2 (1961-1968). These were years of Buckeye domination, and still Coach T has topped Coach Hayes- In his FIRST 8 years here.

I hope to hell that people appreciate what has happened these past 8 years because, as much as I hate to admit it, the domination will not last forever. BUT, at least we have the RIGHT Coach with the RIGHT frame of mind to make sure that his team will always be ready "that" Saturday in late November every year.:oh:

Peace

Jim Tressel has done so much for our program that it just makes me want to choke a bitch when I hear people talking shit. All I have to say is fuck all the people out there willing to throw the face of our program under the bus. This isn't a political forum where you have liberals and conservatives. This is The Ohio State University and OUR team. We are one. With continued support and trust in what we have, our coaches, players, and fans will once again show the nation what it's like to be a Buckeye. Most of us here are crazy about football but this is more than football to guys like Jim Tressel. He is not only a coach, but a teacher, a mentor, a father-figure, a disciplinarian, and a role model. I can't say that I could be any happier with who we have running our program and I'm flat out embarrassed that anybody on this forum or in this fan base would suggest the removal of him. I'm not sure how many more championships we are going to win with Coach Tressel as our head coach but I am sure of this: Coach Tressel will continue to breed excellence into our program and stride for perfection on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. We will continue to improve under Jim Tressel. :oh:
