I desparately need some help. I have the driver yips. Rest of my game is solid, but have to hit hybrid off the tee because with driver, 3-wood, etc. I come over the top. Both pros, plus a teaching pro friend, have been paid a pretty penny to help, but it comes back (also did a mental lesson).

Anyone have a drill or whatnot to stop it? I play with single digit hcps, and they hit it a ton, so I try to muscle. But on the range practicing, I still get the banana. Anything you got, I'll try. Thanks.

Cali, I am probably not the man to help you. Have you looked around on golfwrx.com?

calibuck - I had that problem last year but turned out it was my equipment. I worked hard to correct my swing and developed more of a high trajectory, right to left swing. My Driver/fairway wood/hybrid (all Taylor Made Burner 2.0) were all offset to combat my old high fade...and once I got my swing corrected I couldn't stop snap hooking those clubs. That and I switched from my decades old baseball grip to an interlocking grip. This year, with new equipment, I am focusing on a nice high finish, especially with my woods. Without actually seeing your swing it's hard to guess what other areas need tweaking.

Here is my new equipment...

New driver:

LL

New hybrid:

New wedges:

Completely reconfigured my bag so it makes WAY more sense now, especially based on the courses I play. Not carrying a fairway wood this year and added a 3-iron. Took out the SW that matched my irons, took out the Cleveland 48 and 58 degrees and replaced them with a set of CG15 oil can finish wedges. So my bag looks like this:

Cobra Amp Cell Driver w/ stiff shaft (set to 9.5 degrees)
Cobra Amp Cell Hybrid w/ stiff shaft (set to 17 degrees)
Callaway X-18 3-PW w/ new Gold Pride grips
Cleveland CG15 oil quench wedges (52-56-60 all standard bounce)
Ping Craz-E w/ new 1.0 Super Stroke grip

Up visiting family in Ohio for the weekend. Left mid-70s and sunshine for mid-50s and 15-20 mph winds, but 8 am still going to try to hit the sticks. Anyone play any of the courses around Wilmington or Waynesville, OH recently? Conditions?

Wood, I took the Mizunos out on their maiden voyage today. Couldn't be happier with them. Incredible feel. Really clean look at address. Reminded me of my old TMAG RAC MBs. Surprisingly forgiving though.

I think I should have went with a softstepped PX 6.0 instead of a hardstepped PX 5.5 though. The wind was really blowing today. I am usually good for 130 with a PW. There was a 98 yard shot today where I pulled PW. I hit it pure and came up a few yards short. A lower flight would have helped today.

Anyone make any club purchases lately? Let's see what everyone is gaming this season. Here is what's in my bag.

TM RBZ Tour TP Driver 9.5* Attas Stiff
TM RBZ Tour TP #2 Hybrid 16.5* Aldila RIP 85 Stiff
Mizuno MPH4 3 Iron
Mizuno MP59 4-7
Mizuno MP64 8-PW
Scratch 8620 Wedges 51*, 55*, 59*
Bettinardi BB54 Putter

All my irons have Project X 5.5 rifled shafts hardstepped once. All of my grips are Golf Pride NDMC Whiteout (red) with four wraps.

I also have a TM RBZ TP 14.5* 3W that I swap the #2H out for on occasion. Really curious to see what everyone is swinging.

I've dropped a bunch of lbs since January and that's completely forcing me to reconstruct my lacrosse game... I anticipate that the golf season is going to be very trying...

As for the bag?

TM R7 TP irons 3-PW on Nippon Steel 999GH shafts
TM R7 Driver 10.5 regular flex stock shaft
TM R7 3 & 5 regular flex stock shafts
Everything regripped with GP New Decade Multicompound cord

... and I kept the SW from my Orlimar Tri-Metal set from years ago. Probably one of my favorite clubs I've ever had. As far as that goes, those clubs were some of my favorite clubs I've ever owned. I had them refitted / reshafted about 10-15 years ago and they played so pure. Miss 'em.

oh, and an Odyssey 2-ball putter. But until I get out and take a few full swings, I'm guessing this season may be just like starting over.

Good call on the GP NDMC grips. I think they are hands down the best golf grip on the market. Good luck with the transition.

For you wacky hackers out there here are some pretty good non biased articles regarding golf balls.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Let's get one thing perfectly clear. There is no golf ball on the market that will enable you to hit the ball straighter than David Toms. Or farther than Dustin Johnson.

A ball hasn't been made that will help you hit as many greens in regulation as Steve Stricker or as close to the hole as Jim Furyk. When it comes to balls, there are no magic fixes to a slice, chunk, dink or chili-dip. Yet it's the one piece of equipment used for every shot.

Walk into your favorite sporting goods store or pro shop and the shelves upon shelves of balls can be overwhelming and confusing. There are a variety of balls that can help you maximize your strengths, but how does one decide which one is best for their game?

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- What is the best ball for you? The answer is not a no-brainer. Golf balls are built for swings. Not people. There is no optimum choice for all women. Or all seniors. Or all juniors.

"The ball doesn't know who's hitting it, if it's a man or a woman or a young guy or an old guy," said GolfTec Cleveland owner/director of instruction Nick Paez, who knows more about balls than Michael Symon knows about food.

Most likely you will lose it. You will hit it into the woods or into the middle of a pond or into rough so deep you'd have a hard time finding a Chihuahua. So, why spend a fortune? If you are a recreational golfer out more for the exercise, camaraderie and a good time at the 19th hole, let your budget be your guide.

There are enough balls on the market to fill a two-car garage and they can be found in all price ranges and for a variety of skill levels. Here are some suggestions.

Article regarding ball/club fitting… This would be a good read for some of you guys.
1. Devalue the distance factor. Most balls travel the same distance off the tee.

2. Buy what you can afford. If you lose a few balls during a typical round it's hard to justify spending $50 on a dozen. Besides, high handicappers can't tell the difference in spin from one ball to the next.

3. Work backwards. Most shots are taken on or around the green. Start on the green with a handful of different makes. Putt each one and pay attention to how they roll and see if you like the "feel" of the ball coming off your putter.

4. Wedge play is important. Move to a spot 60-80 yards from the green. If you have a hard time keeping your ball on the green with your wedges or 9-iron you need a ball that promotes higher spin off the shorter clubs.

5. How fast is your swing? If you'd like to know your clubhead speed but don't want to spend money on a ball fitting or a swing instrument, here's an option that will provide a general estimate. Hit some shots with your driver and ask a buddy -- preferably wearing a hard hat -- to track and measure where the balls land before any roll. Hit about 10 shots to determine an average distance. Then take the average distance your drives carried and divide that number by 2.3 mph. That figure gives you an idea of your clubhead speed. For instance, a 220-yard average carry divided by 2.3 means your swing is around 96 mph.

The 'Six Understandings' of Golf......
1. The Law of Physics States it's easier to get up at 6:00 AM to play golf than at 10:00 AM to mow the lawn.
2. A good drive on the 18th hole has stopped many a golfer from giving up the game.
3. A good golf partner is one who's always slightly worse than you are. That's why I get so many calls to play with friends.
4. A pro shop gets its name from the fact that you need to have the income of a professional golfer to buy anything in there.
5. If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven he probably shot an eight or worse.
6. It takes longer to become a good golfer than it does to become a brain surgeon. However, a brain surgeon can't ride around on a golf cart, eat hot dogs, drink beer and fart while performing brain surgery.

I really need to get some new clubs. My dad has a side business of making clubs. Well the last set he made me was before I grew 7 inches one summer. So he put extensions in. Well, I'm not a fan of them anymore, as I've gotten a little taller, and I want something "better". Just don't have the $ to drop on an all new set. Plus I don't play enough to support the purchase. I would love to play a LOT more though.

I went on a golf trip this week with seven friends. We played Farmlinks at Pursell Farms near Birmingham, AL. Great course with great amenities accomodations. $135 for all you can play golf plus breakfast, lunch, and all the non-alcoholic beverages and snacks you want. I highly recommend it if you find yourself near Birmingham. I definitely favor it over the RTJ Trail.
