Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

Then Grandma Bill Snyder showed up... they were very ugly...[/URL].

Living in Wichita has proven to me that k state fans are the biggest bunch of fair-weather fans in the realm of college football. I was at the big 12 champ game in kcmo when they upset Oklahoma (eventually to lose to us in fiesta) and was a witness to some seriously [censored] poor sportsmanship. In retrospect I was glad they didn't know they'd face the Buckeyes because I was wearing my colors! After the bowl game, which they say we should have lost, it was tough times on all different fans down here until they faded back into obscurity. I will say the one redeeming part of living in this part of the country is the smelting pot of fans. We've got em all here, but the Texas, Nebraska and Sooner fans are usually the best to talk shop with.

I only went to one Knebraska game in Boulder, and the CU fans were well behaved. This may be because the CU "fans" were outnumbered. It was basically a home game for the Huskers in Boulder. CU "fans" have about as much passion as Indianer fans.

Nothing beats Boulder, though, not even Columbus.

Say that after you've been to Morgantown.

I dare ya.

I'm old enough (barely) to remember Walter Cronkite narrating as the last chopper flew out of Saigon. Father fought over there.

Not to get all pedantic but that famous footage had nothing to do with the US embassy.

You ever seen the old footage of the American Embassy during the fall of Saigon?
You think there was an actual "war" in Vietnam??? Please - it was all filmed in parts of Plaquemines Parish - just like the "moon landing" in Arizona. Ask yourself who got the "money" for that war?? Who was the President then? What state was he from? Why does Smoov hate Texas???

Connect the dots. :tinfoil:

We should really veer this off the Texas thread into some other thread.

I get that Camp Randall is an "unfriendly" place for visitors, using my master-of-the-understatement powers there. We'll have to let you know how it compares to our other ugly road trips from the Big XII.

I wonder if we won't be shown their best behavior this year since we're new, and all eyes will be focused on our first-ever Big Ten game, and after that the gloves come off.

A lot of it depends on how the lead-up to the game goes. If you have a bunch of dumbass Husker fans shooting their mouths off saying we're going to roll through the Big Ten (a sentiment that is, thankfully, not widespread), then I can see Wiscy Fan taking umbrage to that and letting us have it in Madison. But if all sides are friendly and respectful leading up to the game, which I suspect will happen this year, then the overall experience shouldn't be too bad.

No matter what happens, anywhere, when you come to Lincoln you'll be treated well. There will be the inevitable jackass here and there, but 99% of the Husker fans you meet are more likely to hand you a Red Cup than chuck a battery at your head. I think there will be a lot of friendliness shown to your fans Oct. 8th, and for the most part your friends and family should come back with good reports about us. No slashed tires, no broken windshields, no assaults, no harassment of your wife and kids.

It all comes down to the time of the game.

-Noon and they won't be (that) drunk yet. It will be tame.

-3:30 its 50/50

-night game =

Andy Staples gets into the Longhorn Network nitty-gritty

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...work-big-12/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_wr_a1

Depending on the interpretation of current NCAA rules, televising high school games on The Longhorn Network might give Texas an unfair advantage in recruiting on top of the inherent advantages the nation's wealthiest athletic department already has.
...

At the schools that had other options, coaches must have bristled when they heard Longhorn Network vice president of programming Dave Brown on Austin radio station KZNX-AM. During an interview about the network's planned programming, Brown got very specific about the plans to broadcast at least 18 high school games this season. "Certainly, we're going to follow the great players in the state," Brown said. "Obviously, a kid like Jonathan Gray from Aledo. I know people are going to want to see Jonathan Gray. I can't wait to see Jonathan Gray. The feedback we got from our audience is they just want to see Jonathan Gray run. Whether it's 45-0 or not, they want to see more Jonathan Gray. So we're going to do our best to accommodate them and follow the kids that are being recruited by a lot of the Division I schools -- certainly some of the kids Texas has recruited, is recruiting and everyone else in the Big 12 is recruiting."
Remember, Brown isn't a Texas employee. He isn't bound by NCAA rules against publicizing recruits. But the financial partnership between Texas and ESPN blurs those lines considerably. Essentially, someone with a huge financial stake in the success of the Texas athletic program got on the radio and promised coverage of the most coveted recruit in the state of Texas in the class of 2012. It doesn't matter that Gray committed to the Longhorns in June. The NCAA doesn't recognize verbal commitments, only signed letters-of-intent. Gray is a recruitable player.
What Brown said next probably made coaches' blood run cold in the Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC. "I know there is a kid Connor Brewer from Chaparral High School in [Scottsdale] Arizona," Brown told KZNX. "We may try to get one or two of their games on, as well, so people can see an incoming quarterback that'll be part of the scene here in Austin." Brewer, another member of the class of 2012, also is committed to Texas. But what about the players in future recruiting classes? Essentially, Brown admitted The Longhorn Network will highlight the players Texas wants -- no matter where they live.
...
High-schoolers aren't dumb. If their game is on something called The Longhorn Network, they'll make the association that Texas has something to do with the broadcast, and if Texas is powerful enough to get their game broadcast nationwide, Texas must be a pretty great place to play football.

Yikes.
