Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

I saw a Nebraska fan mention something about "best fans in the world" or something similar.

IMO, the Texa$ fans rank up there with the Catholics of Indiana and most SEC especially those from Alabama.

I must say, the SEC fans here seem pretty decent and it is great when they fight each other.

Go Buckeyes!

Our former AD put that on the stadium. "Through these gates pass the greatest fans in college football." Are we? Sure. Are OSU fans? Sure. How could you quantify that? It's a bit of fluff from a stupid AD we fired.

Are we good fans? I think so. Those of you who visit Lincoln in October will, with the exception of the inevitable asshat, meet some pretty good folks here. From what I understand there are pretty great fans everywhere, which is one of the things I think makes college football so great.

Giving a recruit's high school increased exposure in exchange for his choosing your university? How in the fuck can you not see that as a violation?

Didn't Bama recently pay for tens of thousands of dollars worth of renovations for a high school field? That school just happened to be the home of one of their recruiting targets and they did it under the guise that they were practicing for a bowl game there and needed to update the facilities (because apparently they couldn't find another field that didn't need thousands in renovations within the area).

I think the reason why they could go independent is because, if OU and aTm left, there wouldn't be much of a conference to stick around for.

Or stay in a weak BCS conference for a much easier chance at landing a BCS spot.

Either situation, independence or a weakened Big 12, helps Texas. And the best part (for them) is that they don't have to do a thing.....their action will be based off of what everyone else does in response to them, thus their image (to unknowledgable bystanders) isn't tarnished (and it doesn't hurt that ESPN can parade that fact around also.

I've got a TON of respect for Nebraska fans, they are some of the best in CFB.

With any more defections the Big XII risks losing its AQ status.

Fairly questionable but not out of the realm of reason. However, there's no way you can justify putting a certain high school on a university's private network if that high school has a player being recruited by said university.

Dammit Oh8ch! You WOULD post that when I'm surfing BP on my girlfriend's computer. Are YOU going to explain to her why there's a flaming crater where her sarcasm processor used to be, hmmmm?

We've survived Boulder and CoMo. We've survived Manhattan when they were competitive. We'll be OK in Madison. I have family in Wisconsin. They're different from most other folks I know, but they're OK.

I lived in Manhattan...they are weak sauce compared to Madison and Happy Valley. K-State got their arses handed to them by Rock Chaulk Jayhawk and all the purple boys took their ball and left Aggieville (K-State "Bar" area) Don't know about Boulder though.

"We do not want to use it as a recruiting advantage. We don't want it tied to Texas," Dodds said. "ESPN knows we don't want to violate any NCAA rules and they don't want to."

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s...-calm-big-12-rivals-concerns-longhorn-network

Don't know why everyone is getting all worked up about this. Texas and ESPN would NEVER do anything to gain a competitive advantage. Of course ESPN doesn't want to violate NCAA rules. It would make for an awkward Outside the Lines segment.

Dodds said he considered the conversations constructive and suggested the network would not put more pressure on a league that nearly broke apart last summer

Glad to see that ESPN approves.

"We're in a bold new world," Dodds said. "And we're walking through it."

And walking over anyone who gets in our way.

Could BTN (or the Big Ten) counteract this, if deemed legal by the NCAA, and start putting Big Ten recruits (from all their respective states) on BTN?

I mean, the network could use the programming and FSN has high school games on their regional networks already.
