Spurrier is not going anywhere. He might as well be tenured.

The OBC is one of the last (if not the last) of the great characters of the game.
Woody, Switzer, Bobby Bowden, and the OBC.
Those guys were characters. I'd have to say if he left, that the last great character in the business would be Lester down there in Baton Rouge.

All the rest of the coaches are pretty cerebral guys. Well...there is one guy that has potential....

they've got more 10 win seasons since 2011 than Mississippi State has since 1895.

And without Spurrier they'd have just as many 10-win seasons as they had before him.
I'm not under the impression that he's not worth his paycheck*, but his name and associated above-average success has given rise to consistently being over-rated.

*in terms of market value at least; not wanting to get into a debate of how inflated coach salaries are in general

Mike Leach is a grounded human. I think.

I concur.

"I'm not really good with technology. All this button pushing and whatnot. I mean, you can just imagine based on what's happened in the last 15 years. Conversations won't happen 10 years from now. There aren't going to be people to talk to, it's going to be this (mimics pushing buttons). 'Do you want to go out on a date with me?' 'I don't know, what do you look like?' 'Well I look kind of like this.' 'OK, what are your interests?' 'Well, what do you think my interests are? Looking to this thing and typing into this just like yours are.' 'Yeah, no kidding, that's what everybody's doing.' 'Well, where do you want to go?' 'Well, what difference does it make? Because all we're going to be doing is looking into machines anyways.' Well, that's true and in the end, it's going to tough to perpetuate the species. There's no question about that. So we're all going to look in this box and eventually be extinct. That's how it ends."

They aren't overrated, they have been winning a lot of games. Credit where credit is due.

They're overrated. Preseason top ten this year based on WHAT? Please tell me. And they're STILL only one win away from being ranked, (27 this week) despite losing two games AT HOME. They should have three losses, but UGA pulled an UGA (another perennially overrated team.) meanwhile, undefeated Nebraska can barely crack the top twenty...

My comment is more along the lines of the last several years. As to this year - perhaps so, but our conference has been so bumblingly bad that I just don't see how anyone can complain about rankings.

I can't be an objective viewer b/c the conference my team is in happens to suck this year?
That's quite irrational. What the B1G is doing has little to do with the fact that other schools are grossly over-rated.

Why were they preseason top-10, coming off an 11-2 season (their 3rd straight) that ended with a #4 ranking (their 3rd straight top-10 finish) and a bowl win (their 3rd straight), and returning most of its starters? That is exactly how preseason polls have always worked.
