"moral victories" are for MAC teams...........

there were some bright sports, especially on D, but I just cant get any sense of victory out of a loss

I thought victories over Colorado and Sparty were for MAC teams. :tongue2:

Hey if you can find no solace after a game like that, I can't criticize your perspective. This is Ohio State football; everyone involved should be held to a higher standard. The high expectations fans place on the program are the real reason TOSU has such a terrific history of success.

Personally, I have to take moral victories when I can. Or else I wouldn't have very many victories at all. (That might be why the doctor put me on anti-depressants.)

Damnit. We should have won. I thought we were gonna win. I tried. I forced every decibel I could out of burning lungs and parched throat, believing that for once something would happen that would make us victorious.

I could sit here and bitch about a few play calls, and how we should have had a lead going in the half, but it doesn't matter. ...I tried damnit, I tried.

I don't understand that 3rd and 5 (or whatever) call on about the 32. It's 15-10, you have a kicker who has the range from 50+, you know you're not going to attempt a FG from much further than the ball is at that point and while it would still be a one possession game, it's a one possession game in which you can't lose. The one thing that couldn't happen, did happen - a sack. RUN the ball! Hell even run the vanilla Power O. Maybe it gets your the first down, maybe it gets you in a 4th and inches situation from the 28.

The defense played great and it's frustrating to lose a game like that. You can say what you want about morale victories. I know the media (or Mark May) won't admit it, but the Buckeyes just proved that they CAN hang with anyone in the nation.

Even worse was the 3rd and 3 call at the end of the first half. You absolutely run a play that keeps the clock moving. I understand the mentality of trying to be aggressive and put points on the board.....but a good game manager recognizes the downside to leaving a minute on the clock and punting the ball back. USC had no timeouts, and could not stop the clcok....if you don't pick up the first you kick it away with 10 left on the game-clock. If you pick up the first down, you still have 50 seconds and a timeout from the 40 yard line.

Tressel has had an awful start to the year in terms of game management and decesion making. It just feels like Romeo Crennel is lurking on the sidelines or something....

Hey Folks

Sorry I did not read the rest of this thread before posting, because I was at the game and I am totally exhausted and don't have a voice, but here goes.

1. Thanks to the mods who kept this place nice and clean last night. (Were there lots of bans?)

2. I was amazed by our D. They held the mighty USC offense down, they didn't make any crucial mistakes, they were amazing.

3. Last night just was not Terrelle's night. It happens.

4. The O played well, but they just couldn't get the points. USC got one touchdown capitalizing off a Pryor interception, and then they were able to eke out another one at the end. That's the difference. Our O was not able to get a second touchdown.

OSU led for most of the game, albeit by a very small margin. USC was just a little bit better than our O in that regard. Our D just couldn't be on the field all night long.

5. With Terrelle struggling, I wish Tress had kicked one or two field goals. One is a tie, two might have been a win! This goes back to "Tress needs more aggressive play-calling/should get an aggressive O coordinator" which is an annual ritual discussion we have.

5. The crowd was on FIRE. I am so proud of the fans. You had to have been there to feel the Shoe shake. It was beautiful.

6. I was down by the band and stayed for Carmen Ohio, applauding the players for a heck of a game. The look on Tressel's face was one I will never forget. Then I look over at Terrelle and the look on his face broke my heart.

If I hear anyone talk shyte about Terrelle Pryor I might get the urge to knock their teeth out. This is the time he needs our love and our support, not harsh criticism. The team are the ones who are the most heart-broken about this. They do not "owe" us a win. Show 'em some love.

7. All the talk about mighty USC blowing us out turned out to be just crap. We showed we are able to hang with anyone. I think we can safely say that the ghost that has been haunting Buckeye football since January 2007 is no more, even though last night was a loss.

It's always easy to second guess. And many times as a coach, you are damed if you do and damed if you don't. In retrospect should Tress have made some different calls in key situations? Yes. I was wanting him to go for the TD on 4th and goal and I think we should have kicked the field goal towards the end of the game. If we convert on those two plays, that's 10 more points and we win the game.

In many ways the game comes down to those two plays/calls.

And yet, up to that point our Defense was shutting USC down. They only had a TD up to that point because of the INT and having to take four tries to get into the end zone from the 3 yd. line. So I understand Tress' thinking on letting the D win the game. Unfortunately, Joe McKnight came alive and our D did not have an answer for him.

Also, in Tress' defense, I have never seen TP so rattled and so off his game as I did last night. He hurried many throws and locked onto one primary receiver the entire night.

With all this said, we are not far away from becoming one of the elite teams again in CFB. We may be top ten, but not yet in the top 5 imo. There are a few pieces of the puzzle that have not yet come together.

One is TP's maturing and progress. He still has a ways to go. But once the light comes on, watch out. We need a couple of elite RB's and I think we will have that with Berry, Smith and Hyde. We need a dominate OL and after last night, we have reason to believe that by this time next year, that indeed will be the case.

Defensively, we are set. We have the talent and depth to be dominate.

Hopefully, our boys will rebound from the disappointing loss and focus on Toledo. I watched some of the game against Colorado and these guys are for real. We can't afford a let down. This is the time for the coaches and captains to rallied the team together. There's still a lot of football left to be played.

One final thought - The crowd last night was absolutely amazing!!

GO BUCKS!!
