I didn't see USC hand us a thing. I saw two extremely young teams hyped up on the biggest stage they'll play in other than an NC game making mistakes.

Respectfully disagree, as soon as we started to get wood on Barkley, we had them beat. Their line started to crumble, barkley was rattled, and we had the momentum. To be able to hold them the way we did several times was just a excellent Buckeye moment.

Truth be told, USC, while an excellent program, is also experiencing a down year. Their talent, by their standards, is not what it was. That makes this even more of a heartbreaker.

Again, it's our offense and playcalling. It's pedantic and borderline ridiculous. There were some excellent calls, but for the life of me, I can't understand why we never stick with what works, namely Saine coming out of the backfield on those flares, Devier and Duron, etc.

We need a Chris Ault type to modernize our philosophy.

This young team grew a lot last night. The defense was magnificent.
TP still has a lot of growth to do, but he obviously has a high ceiling and has the desire to be the best. The offense will grow.
I like our chances at winning the Big Ten. And getting a Rose Bowl!

Agree 100%

Once again you have championship caliber defense and special teams but a fringe top 25 caliber offense. I doesn't have to be this way. The talent is there.

No hindsight on that one, I was screaming "run the damn ball" from my couch. Obviously those 3 points were huge. I agreed with the 4th and 2 decision last week, but this was bad. Not making these types of decisions is what used to make Tressel so good in big games.

Defense showed exactly why I was willing to give them a pass after the Navy game. For all intents and purposes they gave up 1 touchdown. Obviously they will carry this team.

Offense showed the same lack of any direction or imagination that we have seen for years. USC tried their best to hand this game to OSU, and the offense refused to take it from them.

Yep my biggest gripe from last night is the last drive in the 2nd quarter...run the damn ball and run some clock. You punt the ball with 20 seconds left and make them go 40 yards in 10 seconds to kick a FG. A bad coaching decision IMO, and we payed for it.

I thought all along that SC was 7-10 points better than the Buckeyes and if the Buckeyes were to win, they had to play a perfect game. The mistakes and missed opportunites killed them.

Nothing lucky about SC's long winning drive. They earned that and Barkley looked far more composed than Pryor.

The D lost too much to graduation but will grow and get better.

Tressel can be baffling at times. He goes for it on 4th and a long 2 vs. Navy, when a chip shot FG would have been the right call, putting them up by 3 scores . Then he makes some questionable calls in 2 first and goal situations against SC, which wound up biting the Buckeyes in the backside.

It is what is is, as Bill Parcells used to say. The Buckeyes will continue to be seen as a B team by the National press, since they cannot beat the top teams like USC, Texas, Florida etc.

I'm even nervous about the high scoring Toledo squad next Saturday.

Come on guys. Get it together for the conference games and grow as a team.

Go Buckeyes. :osu:

There is something that I took away from this game that points to a growth opportunity for Terrelle Pryor.

To lead an offense, you need to maintain your composure when they are walking through hell. That is very easy for fans to observe but very hard to do in the context of a game like last night.

The coaching staff need to help Terrelle learn to manage his composure better. If he does that, he will get the feet right and he will settle his team so that they do their jobs.

Compare his progress to Vince Young, he's at about the same place. Last night was a big stage on which Terrelle Pryor did not distinguish himself. That doesn't mean that he will not have learned from it.

If ever there were an argument to get at least one of the BCS games out of the South and West, this was it. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE. There is absolutely no reason why the NC game couldn't be played in Soldier Field, Ann Arbor or Columbus. Give the fans a game worth going to -- and the Motor City Bowl is not much of a game -- and they'll fill the stands.

USC can go home, finish the season beating the crap out of what is left of the Pac 10 and then stay home to beat the brains out of someone in the Rose Bowl or the NC game. It's a huge benefit to have the stands filled with your people.

Overall, our guys fought their hearts out to the bitter end and I'm proud of their effort, but I can't understand how the defense allowed Barkley to snatch that win in the face of almost certain defeat. This loss is gut-wrenching. At times, Pryor seemed like a deer lost in the headlights. I guess the expectations & pressure were too much. We needed more from him last night.

I've never been a big believer in the "home field advantage."

Until last night. The crowd was ridiculous. It's a shame the team couldn't pull one out for them last night.

I don't understand that 3rd and 5 (or whatever) call on about the 32. It's 15-10, you have a kicker who has the range from 50+, you know you're not going to attempt a FG from much further than the ball is at that point and while it would still be a one possession game, it's a one possession game in which you can't lose. The one thing that couldn't happen, did happen - a sack. RUN the ball! Hell even run the vanilla Power O. Maybe it gets your the first down, maybe it gets you in a 4th and inches situation from the 28.

The defense played great and it's frustrating to lose a game like that. You can say what you want about morale victories. I know the media (or Mark May) won't admit it, but the Buckeyes just proved that they CAN hang with anyone in the nation.

I wonder why Ohio State hardly seems to use the QB sneak anymore. Is it just because of the Penn State game? It is basically the closest thing to a money play as there is in football, but they keep handing off to the tailback instead. That has not worked very well, even when Beanie was there. I remember seeing a stat that QB sneaks work like 90-95% of the time or something like that.

USC used the sneak all night, and it worked.
