Sharrif Floyd (official thread)

He may not be 350 but he is a DT all the way, I don't think he is much like Worthington or Rose at all.

Thats what I meant, he's a big plug up the middle DT. And that was Dorsey and Cody, both were built for stopping the run, and we haven't had a guy like that in a while. Regardless of the comparison, thats insignificant

Starting lineup will definitely be Larimore and Simon on the inside and Heyward and Williams (I'm assuming Thad is gone) on the outside. I imagine Heyward will also slide inside quite a bit, as that seems to be his most effective position.

Two deep will be Goebel with Bellamy, Floyd and Hankins (assuming they both sign) fighting for playing time. It is a perfect time to come into a situation where he will be playing on one of the best Defenses in the nation, learning from one of the best DL/DC coaches in the nation, and also be able to contribute early on in his career without undue expections placed upon him.

That's funny you've penciled in Gibson leaving but not Heyward. I'd assume that Heyward would leave before, and honestly they'd both be gone. I know Heyward said otherwise and thats a nice thing to say during the season, but all analysts have him rated higher than Thad. With that being said, does anyone see Floyd also being a hybrid player like Heyward, playing inside and out?

Well, we'll see but Heyward has gone on record as saying that he is going to stay. He's also gone on record as saying that his Mom has been very insistent that he come back for his Senior year. Word has it that he is actually trying to get other guys like Thad to stay as well....

Wow! That would be great! I'm not trying to be a pessimist but it's hard sometimes to comeback and pass up that NFL money, especially with rookies not nearly making as much next year because of the new cap for rookies! But Thad and Cam back would be huge, let's hope they're working on getting Floyd here too. We'll definitely have room for him and Hankins to step in and get some significant PT in year 1!

If I'm not mistaken the rookie cap (as it has been presented right now) will only affect the top 10 picks. Regardless, if you are going to be a first round pick you should always go, IMO.

Some guy named Simon probably will have something to say about it.

I think Simon starts next to Larimore. I think the base has a nose guy(Larimore) and the other DT as a quicker more disruptive type(Worthington) is where I see Simon and GG seeing more time. I'm not trying to say Bellamy won't be playing just pure speculation but I believe Floyd may be a more natural fit there from his physical standpoint. To come in and start, hard to do and he'll have to show he has what it takes besides being physically ready(if his weight is not bad weight). Top three though will be Grant John and Dex who should see a majority of the reps with Cam having the ability to slide down.

I think he could come in right away and step into the two deep backing up Larimore.

Me too. Floyd just has a unique skill set to get on the field quicker. I think Simon and Larimore will start inside, with Goebel and Floyd (if he comes here) playing a ton. It's also possible that Bellamy and (maybe) Hankins see the field some.
