Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

This was literally the perfect recipe for longhorn tears: a couple of close losses to ranked teams that had a few questionable calls so that they could blame the losses on the refs........just enough for that legendary longhorn hubris to start building and predicting a win at TCU.............TCU comes out and curb stomps them. And the baggy bevo is back!

But no one will ever admit that that wears burnt orange. And Strong knows it but can't say it. The UT job is a joke, a high paying joke, but between the Longhorn network constant interruptions, the booster who are as meddling as Jerry Jones, a fan base that thinks that they're still the top dog in TX, and the rest of the TX teams stepping up and no longer fearing UT, the coaching gig is almost a set up to fail.

Longhorn fan will admit that Mack destroyed the program because it's easier than admitting that 04-09 was the exception rather than the rule to Texas football over the last 40 years; an exception built upon lucking into two once in a generation QBs in a row.

Spot on on the rest of the stuff. Texas head coaches are set up to fail. Throw in a university administration that's created nothing but institutional hatred among the rest of the conference, and a mind-numbing level of hubris that just might take the program independent, and that job is probably the most toxic in American. Alabama is the only thing in the same league.

Think about all the things that would need to be different at Ohio State to turn it into Texas. Just for starters, we'd need to have an institutional history of guys like Max Fisher, Les Wexner and John Ong being obsessed with the football team and constantly meddling in the AD, and we'd need to have a joke of a "Buckeye Network" that prevents the rest of the Big Ten from forming the BTN. Texas might be the Joneses, but that is little solace when the rest of the neighborhood wants to burn down your house.

Charlie's gonna have some good stories when he's gone.

I disagree somewhat with the Alabama comparison, as Bama wouldn't be smug enough to break away from the SEC network, they're still about conference pride. Also, Tuscaloosa lives and breathes UA, Austin doesn't. I lived in austin for 2yrs, and you could easily find tickets on Saturday and bars that you had to remind there was a game that day. I wonder where UT turns to after charlie gets the hook next year. A doubt a big name would ever want to step foot there, which is a shame because the school is amazing and the city is even better, and the money they'll pay you would be absurd.

From the Fire Charlie thread

Not going to quote the booster but Jim Harbaugh isn't leaving his alma mater for a rebuild at Texas. Mark $#@!ing richt you have to be $#@!ting me. Dan Mullin is great at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The bloom is off malzahn and dabo seems like a high functioning retard.
Harmon and Fuente are offensive versions of CS except neither of them won a bcs bowl.

Dantonio is intriguing.

If you look at the state of ou when Switzer left, they went through Gibbs, shnelly and Blake before stoops got there. 12 years. That's what bad coaching hires do to a program. You can have a world class chef and he can't cook $#@! without a stocked pantry. Let Charlie get his groceries before you decide the cuisine is $#@!

0xdeadbeef
You're as wrong about chefs as you are about coaches. A world class chef can turn limited ingredients into something great. Perhaps not the recipe that want to make, but they can spin magic with what they have. Same with an elite coach; we have more than enough talent to win 7-9 games in the right hands.
A average chef (or coach) without a stocked pantry is probably screwed. We're seeing this in living color.

Bull$#@! make something with ketchup and grape jelly that anyone outside prison would be happy with

OCSpur
And syrup. Don't forget syrup.

sawbonz
Ok Malik is grape jelly
Heard is ketchup (fancy)
Daje is syrup
What else do we really have? Williams and vahe for salt and pepper?
We have $#@!
Who of our starters would be on byu's 2 deep?

Ped. St., though? The Longhorn fanbase is obviously disconnected from reality. But with the PSU job, a coach is competing against a martyr who was perfect and that job has a fanbase that hates their own university. What other fanbase/alumni openly hate their university the way the Pedsters do? O'Brien performed a miracle there in keeping the Pedsters as competitive as he did, and he made a point of taking a shot at all the crazy Cultists on his way out the door.

Franklin is a Joebot, and he is still getting the "Joe wouldn't have lost that game" treatment.
