Longhorn fan will admit that Mack destroyed the program because it's easier than admitting that 04-09 was the exception rather than the rule to Texas football over the last 40 years; an exception built upon lucking into two once in a generation QBs in a row.
Spot on on the rest of the stuff. Texas head coaches are set up to fail. Throw in a university administration that's created nothing but institutional hatred among the rest of the conference, and a mind-numbing level of hubris that just might take the program independent, and that job is probably the most toxic in American. Alabama is the only thing in the same league.
Think about all the things that would need to be different at Ohio State to turn it into Texas. Just for starters, we'd need to have an institutional history of guys like Max Fisher, Les Wexner and John Ong being obsessed with the football team and constantly meddling in the AD, and we'd need to have a joke of a "Buckeye Network" that prevents the rest of the Big Ten from forming the BTN. Texas might be the Joneses, but that is little solace when the rest of the neighborhood wants to burn down your house.
Charlie's gonna have some good stories when he's gone.
