Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

Anyone who thinks the B1G would refuse UT if they abided by our equal revenue-sharing and abandoned the ill-conceived LHN is being foolish.

UT would be an outstanding addition to our league, regardless of what you might think about their fan base. After all, it's pretty much how everyone else regards the Buckeye fan base.

We're not talking about fanbases. We're talking about the institutional culture that permeates that university at its highest level, and here there is no comparison with Ohio State. Ohio State is all-in on the Big Ten's culture of equal revenue sharing because we understand that, in the long run, we get more than we give from a Big Ten that's stable for the long-term. Texas is the complete opposite. They're a self-entitled, parasitic cancer and will destroy everything that makes the Big Ten special. Hell, even OU seems to be finally looking to get away from them.

The question isn't whether the Big Ten would accept UT under perfect conditions. It's whether they'd accept a UT with a clearly demonstrated institutional inability to play fairly with their conference mates. And UT first has to get espn to let them out of that LHN contract, and that's not happening if their destination is the Big Ten.

Heard a report recently that ESPN is laying off hundreds of employees thanks to so many people "cutting the cable" and switching to monthly streaming services.

It seems likely we're going to get to a point where only people who care about live sports will pay for cable and on the way ESPN will continue losing fuck tons of money.

I've been quietly concerned about this tbh.
Wondering how it'll affect the B1G's tv deal. Everyone else did their deals ~3 years ago. It seems that was the peak of several systems. The peak for cable/sat subscribing. The peak for NCAA profits off "amateurs". The landscape hasn't quite changed yet, but it's on the cusp of changing. NCAA and schools will have to deal with rulings on player's rights. And my generation marks a sharp line between subscribers and cord-cutters. Both those factors stand to negatively impact the bottom line for Athletic Departments.

I've been a little worried that the conference will struggle to meet their expectations for a new deal that would've been astronomical a year ago. Whatever tv deals(s) struck will be substantial, I'm just wondering if it'll be as impressive if they had negotiated a little earlier.

Spiels just calls out the right pass opportunity and the QB throws to the guy who is covered. Texas is extremely poorly coached.

So much talk about how Charlie Strong was supposed to be some kind of guru seems a bit like fools gold now.
