Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

They're blaming the refs for their losses, but this is why they lost:

12.4 SEC Championship Game (Arlington/New Orleans/Atlanta)
My favorite comment from that thread. From a hypothetical sec schedule for ut. There is no fucking chance the sec game leaves atlanta any time soon. Not only is it a central location for all the old members, they know if they ever let that deal lapse the acc will replace them with out a moment's hesitation. But I'm sure ut joining would get the sec title game moved just for them.

Well, they did force BXII to put CCG in their backyard... so they presume every other conference will treat them the same way. Still haven't realized they shit their own bed. Other conferences will take them in a heartbeat, but none will give them that kind of leeway again - ever.

They'll all crying about leaving, gone 75% BWI over there. So used to getting calls their way, they lose it cuz of a few dodgy penalties... completely oblivious to their own team's monumental bungling that actually cost them the game.

I hope they join the PAC. Another conference where Defense is such a foreign concept they're convinced Stanford invented it as a competitive gimmick. Witnessing the pissing contests between shitty entitled USC and shitty entitled Texas while get ass-fucked by AZ schools would be glorious.

we have our own network, the minute the playoff goes to 8 teams, we should go independent

That nobody gets and that none of the cable companies will carry.

I'm in for independence in football only

Because any conference would be honored to be your bitch and give you a place to park your basketball and Olympic sports.

Texas and ND to the Big 10. Press conference at 11.

Only if we can take OU and force them to drop Corn

Yes, the B1G is so desperate to take in the cancerous tumor known as the University of Tejas, that they'll start letting you run the league from day one. Oh, and by the way, if you haven't been paying attention Boren and OU are trying desperately to get the fuck away from you.

And frankly, going independent would work. UT has the best known brand in college football. It works for ND -- it would work for the Horns.

I don't think we need anyone to come with us. We all know he b1g would jump to give Texas an offer if Texas was interested.

Somehow, I don't think you're as attractive as you think you are.

The conference offices have for whatever reason decided that Texas is the enemy. Blame patterson, or racism, or years of UT running the conference (hilarious), or whatever particular axe you care to grind, but that is the reality in which we live. We tried to get both OU and aggy on-board with a conference network, got a '$#@! you' in response, so we did it ourselves- aggy runs away, blames LHN and makes us the bad guy. When Nebraska and CU and most everybody else voted for unequal shares we went along, then they blamed unequal distribution as their reason for leaving- once again, Texas was the villain. Now the program is losing and the department is in turmoil, so the conference decides there are no consequences in delivering a giant $#@! YOU to Charlie and Texas (never mind the kids, they don't matter) and laughing about it while saying with a straight face that the refs did a good job. Because honestly, what can we actually do about it?

Yes you fucking imbecilic shithead, Texas was nothing but generous, giving and noble every step of the way, but EVERYONE else, including Oklahoma now, is just too blinded by hatred, stupidity and jealousy to see it.

But I have to say that as an ND alum, I love the idea of Texas going independent and having a long-term scheduling agreement with ND.

As an Ohio State alum, I too love this idea.

And that was only the first three pages. Anyone want to question why I had all that I can take of the shag.

I think they're right about the B1G taking them in a heartbeat. Delany would be on a plane within the hour.
The bits about getting other members dropped before they've even joined .... or moving CCGs... or any of their other arrogant delusions/demands (which they're still in denial about undermining their own circle-jerk conference)

And why would either side want ND at this point? ND has pretty damn close to their dream situation w/the ACC. And they don't fit what B1G is looking for anymore - if they ever did. Don't need more schools in middle-of-nowhere Indiana. We've already got 2 of those.

Disagree. Delaney might be on that plane, but it wouldn't be to kiss their ring. There would be long list of conditions that would be non-negotiable, and they would start with: 1) That their unequal revenue sharing bullshit ends on day one. They would be an equal partner; nothing more and nothing less. 2) The LHN gets flushed down the fucking toilet before we even have a second meeting.

Now #2 is interesting and ultimately the deal breaker. ESPN certainly wants to fold that albatross into the SECN, but would they allow UT to back out of it if it meant UT being folded into the BTN? I don't think so. I think they continue to hold their nose, write UT their $15M check because they know that it keeps UT out of the B1G. The B1G will not agree to the LHN in any shape or form, and ESPN knows that and will consider it a catalyst for pushing UT where they want them, into the SEC and SECN.

Again, Tejas will always Tejas. The Shag might be a funhouse mirror distortion of the institutional ego, but it is still a reflection of the mindset that runs that university. They would demand to keep their precious LHN. They would start arguing for unequal revenue sharing. They would start arguing to move the BTCG to Jerry World. They are a cancer, and they would destroy everything that makes the Big Ten successful and stable.

I took most of that for granted. It goes w/o saying that they'd have to shelve their antics and lhn to join any of the big boy conferences. They'd have to swallow their hat... which is why it's hard to see anything happening until theyre forced down that road. OU is getting close, but even then i get the impression theyd add byu and try to carry on.
Of those 3, sec might be only option w/lhn. acc would let them keep it. They're just a lowered-expectation version of bxii.

Heard a report recently that ESPN is laying off hundreds of employees thanks to so many people "cutting the cable" and switching to monthly streaming services.

It seems likely we're going to get to a point where only people who care about live sports will pay for cable and on the way ESPN will continue losing fuck tons of money.

ESPN Extends Deal With N.F.L. for $15 Billion
By RICHARD SANDOMIRSEPT. 8, 2011

Hours before the N.F.L. season began Thursday, ESPN demonstrated what “Monday Night Football” means to the cable empire by renewing it for $15.2 billion through 2021, according to a person briefed on the details. The completion of the contract was delayed by the league’s player lockout.

At $1.9 billion a year, ESPN will be paying 73 percent more than the $1.1 billion a year it has been spending for “Monday Night,” the highest-rated show on cable television. ESPN began carrying Monday night games in 2006, when its previous package of Sunday night games moved to NBC.

But when ESPN made that earlier deal, which will expire in 2013, it received no playoff games and no chance of carrying a Super Bowl, which is rotated among CBS, NBC and Fox. All ESPN had were the rights to carry 17 regular-season games a year.

$1.9 Billion per season. And people wonder why cable rates have ballooned so badly (or how the NFL can afford to pay Goodell $45M per year). That comes out to more than $111,000,000 per week......just for MNF - which basically sucks if you, you know, have a job to get up for....

They can hypothesize and debate all they want about why a 2 loss Alabama team deserves to be in the playoffs, but this is the real "ESPiN looking stupid" discussion topic.
