They're blaming the refs for their losses, but this is why they lost:

My favorite comment from that thread. From a hypothetical sec schedule for ut. There is no fucking chance the sec game leaves atlanta any time soon. Not only is it a central location for all the old members, they know if they ever let that deal lapse the acc will replace them with out a moment's hesitation. But I'm sure ut joining would get the sec title game moved just for them.12.4 SEC Championship Game (Arlington/New Orleans/Atlanta)
we have our own network, the minute the playoff goes to 8 teams, we should go independent
I'm in for independence in football only
Texas and ND to the Big 10. Press conference at 11.
Only if we can take OU and force them to drop Corn
And frankly, going independent would work. UT has the best known brand in college football. It works for ND -- it would work for the Horns.
I don't think we need anyone to come with us. We all know he b1g would jump to give Texas an offer if Texas was interested.
The conference offices have for whatever reason decided that Texas is the enemy. Blame patterson, or racism, or years of UT running the conference (hilarious), or whatever particular axe you care to grind, but that is the reality in which we live. We tried to get both OU and aggy on-board with a conference network, got a '$#@! you' in response, so we did it ourselves- aggy runs away, blames LHN and makes us the bad guy. When Nebraska and CU and most everybody else voted for unequal shares we went along, then they blamed unequal distribution as their reason for leaving- once again, Texas was the villain. Now the program is losing and the department is in turmoil, so the conference decides there are no consequences in delivering a giant $#@! YOU to Charlie and Texas (never mind the kids, they don't matter) and laughing about it while saying with a straight face that the refs did a good job. Because honestly, what can we actually do about it?
But I have to say that as an ND alum, I love the idea of Texas going independent and having a long-term scheduling agreement with ND.
Yes you fucking imbecilic [Mark May]head, Texas was nothing but generous, giving and noble every step of the way, but EVERYONE else, including Oklahoma now, is just too blinded by hatred, stupidity and jealousy to see it.
I think they're right about the B1G taking them in a heartbeat. Delany would be on a plane within the hour.
The bits about getting other members dropped before they've even joined .... or moving CCGs... or any of their other arrogant delusions/demands (which they're still in denial about undermining their own circle-jerk conference)
And why would either side want ND at this point? ND has pretty damn close to their dream situation w/the ACC. And they don't fit what B1G is looking for anymore - if they ever did. Don't need more schools in middle-of-nowhere Indiana. We've already got 2 of those.
Heard a report recently that ESPN is laying off hundreds of employees thanks to so many people "cutting the cable" and switching to monthly streaming services. Now #2 is interesting and ultimately the deal breaker. ESPN certainly wants to fold that albatross into the SECN, but would they allow UT to back out of it if it meant UT being folded into the BTN? I don't think so. I think they continue to hold their nose, write UT their $15M check because they know that it keeps UT out of the B1G. The B1G will not agree to the LHN in any shape or form, and ESPN knows that and will consider it a catalyst for pushing UT where they want them, into the SEC and SECN.

It seems likely we're going to get to a point where only people who care about live sports will pay for cable and on the way ESPN will continue losing fuck tons of money.
ESPN Extends Deal With N.F.L. for $15 Billion
By RICHARD SANDOMIRSEPT. 8, 2011
Hours before the N.F.L. season began Thursday, ESPN demonstrated what “Monday Night Football” means to the cable empire by renewing it for $15.2 billion through 2021, according to a person briefed on the details. The completion of the contract was delayed by the league’s player lockout.
At $1.9 billion a year, ESPN will be paying 73 percent more than the $1.1 billion a year it has been spending for “Monday Night,” the highest-rated show on cable television. ESPN began carrying Monday night games in 2006, when its previous package of Sunday night games moved to NBC.
But when ESPN made that earlier deal, which will expire in 2013, it received no playoff games and no chance of carrying a Super Bowl, which is rotated among CBS, NBC and Fox. All ESPN had were the rights to carry 17 regular-season games a year.
