Sibert Enjoys Taste of Value City
March 28, 2009
By Mark Znidar, The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio
Mar. 28--Cincinnati Princeton junior guard Jordan Sibert made sure there wouldn't be any confusion among spectators at the Division I state basketball tournament about which college team he will be playing for in 2010.
He has committed to play for Ohio State and made sure to wear a pair of "Block O" game socks.
"It was amazing," Sibert said of playing in Value City Arena. "I've got to get used to it."
Sibert certainly looked at home, scoring 15 points and getting six steals to lead Princeton to a 55-41 victory over Toledo St. John's last night before 12,154 in a semifinal.
Princeton (25-1) will get a long-awaited rematch against Northland (26-1) in the championship game tonight. The teams scrimmaged in the preseason, and the results weren't pretty for Princeton.
The story line will be particularly interesting for Sibert because he'll square off against 6-foot-9 Jared Sullinger, his teammate in Amateur Athletic Union summer league play and a future Ohio State teammate.
"It's great competition and we know we're going to have to step up," Sibert said. "This is going to be about the Princeton family."
On a sidenote, Princeton had two other Division I signees on their team.OSU commitment Sibert enjoys taste of Value City

Princeton's Sibert to have surgery
By Mike Dyer ? [email protected] ? April 15, 2009
Princeton junior guard Jordan Sibert will undergo surgery this week for a lower left leg injury he suffered in an AAU game in Virginia on Sunday, Princeton athletic director Scott Kaufman said in an e-mail this morning.
?A full recovery is expected,? Kaufman said.
The 6-foot-4 Sibert, who has orally committed to play at Ohio State, was a key player in the Vikings? Division I state runner-up team in March. Princeton (25-2) made its first state tournament appearance since 1972.
Kaufman said that it is "too early to tell" how long Sibert could be out of action this spring/summer. Rivals.com reported Monday Sibert could be out 7-10 weeks.
?I wouldn?t call (the report) incorrect,? Kaufman said. ?But it is hard to tell before we know how he responds and heals from the surgery.?
Sibert, who also considered Xavier and West Virginia in the recruiting process, is one of the state?s top players in the 2010 class.
Sibert an Enquirer Division I first-team selection, was second-team all-district and honorable mention all-state this past season. He averaged 15.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals.
Kaufman declined to say what day Sibert is having surgery this week.
- Two of Sullinger's and Weatherspoon's AAU teammates, Adreian Payne of Dayton Jefferson and Jordan Sibert of Cincinnati Princeton, could be playing in Value City Arena in January in the 2010 Scholastic Play by Play Classic.
Catchin' up on Weatherspoon, APR, etc. (Hoops & Scoops: an OSU basketball blog)Sibert, who committed to the Buckeyes last year, could be part of a interesting showdown if Princeton agrees to play. The tournament organizer wants to pit Princeton against Cleveland Benedictine, whose star guard, Cameron Wright, recently rescinded his commitment to Ohio State. Wright backed out after feeling unwanted because Matta continued to recruit players like Sibert at Wright's position.
SIBERT HEALTHY: Princeton senior shooting guard Jordan Sibert (Ohio State commit) is ready for the upcoming basketball season after he suffered a lower left injury in an AAU game in mid-April. Princeton coach Josh Andrews said Sibert has progressed well and continues to improve his strength and speed. Sibert, who is rated the nation's No. 37 player overall in the 2010 class by Rivals.com, was cleared to return to the court in September. "Jordan will be expected to demonstrate his experience and leadership," Andrews said. "He is a positive influence on the entire program and this year he gets a chance to have all eyes on him."

Sibert:
"I'm 100 percent back (from a broken leg suffered in April) and expecting a lot of big things. You'll see same things and some new things coming from me as well, a different style of play. I might not be as explosive (right away) but I'm a lot smarter and making a lot better decisions. By the time the season comes around, I will be back to my normal explosion" jumping.
Matta:
"The surgery was successful. I was down in Cincinnati three weeks or a month ago and watched him work out. He looks great.
"Jordan is a guy who, the first time I watched him play, I loved the fact he was all over the floor defensively; he had multiple deflections in the first half. Then he started banging shots and you got glimpse of his athleticism in transition. I knew he was going to be a heck of a player."
