Scholarship Breakdown by Position and Recruiting Class

A regular redshirt involves not playing a second of football that season.

A medical redshirt can be requested from the NCAA if a player is injured for 80% or more of the season.

OK, I'm getting ready to start shifting everyone over a column, so I need to make sure I keep the members of the 2008 class who didn't play last season (thus redshirting) in place under the freshman column. Members of the 2008 class I'm sure who did play are:

Pryor
Posey
Thomas
Adams
Brewster
Shugarts
Williams
Sabino
Sweat

Those who I'm sure didn't play are:

DiLillo
Goebel
Rowell
Mobley
Wells
Howard
Domicone
Buchanan

Those I think didn't play, but not totally sure about are:

Martin
Stoneburner
Johnson

If I've got someone wrong, let me know. Mahaloz...

I do not remember Keith Wells getting any action, but the participation report says he did indeed get in to 3 games. Mili, Stoney did NOT play....neither did Johnson or Martin

In addition to the 80 % rule, the player must not have played the last 8 games or so.

Which could be a possibility for Shugarts or Adams I guess.
Which makes Shugarts and Adams ineligible for a medical redshirt.

I think all of those are correct except for Keith Wells...he played early on in the season.

Thanks. So I was off by only one..not bad for an old fart.

Here's a draft version of the updated chart...if there are no mistakes, I'll make it the actual chart.

He's not on scholarship.
But he is on the current chart, so I figured he would probably be on the next one as well.

I look at the chart not just as a way of keeping track of how many scholarships we have to give in the next class, but also as I was to analyze the depth that we have at various positions. For that reason I think it makes sense to have Boren on there.

Justin Boren is missing.

Justin Boren is a non-scholarship player that used to be on the chart with a notation. If he's on there, he should be in the junior column with that notation, and not be included in the total for that column.

Mili, it looks good - The total in the first column should be 16 with Wilson being added in there, but that doesn't affect the number available for 2010.

Keith Wells is on the participation reports for Troy, Minnesota, and MSU. Those lists aren't perfect, but he's the only #94 on the roster, so they're probably correct in his case.

Well, it is called the "scholarship breakdown" chart. I'm not real sure, to be honest--I just always assumed the chart was for the purpose of keeping track of how many scholarships we have to offer. There is a depth chart thread that is started for each season. But, again, I didn't think Rowell was on scholarship right now, and he's on there. Mili is really the one that will be able to answer your question--this is probably addressed earlier in this thread, but it's 20+ pages long at this point and I'm, frankly, lazy.

Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up. I assume Rowell should be noted as "not on scholarship," then?

I think Josh Kerr will only be a RS Junior next year. He never made it to Miami after committing to them, so his eligibility clock didn't start until he came here in 2006. Your chart has his time up after 2009.

Besides that, looks great.

For Rowell, I've seen statements that he was supposed to be in line to show up for Spring ball this year, but after that it was mentioned that he still needed a qualifying score.

But Tressel's statement this week that, as of now, he had 17 schollies available matches up with the chart that includes Rowell, so that may mean he's planning on having him.

I think that John Simon should be listed at DT, rather than DE.

Good catch. Also, Ross Homan should be a junior in terms of eligibility. And both of those reduce the number of schollies available for 2010, so I'm now uncertain how JT got to 17. Perhaps he wasn't including Rowell in determining that number.
