Scholarship Breakdown by Position and Recruiting Class

You know the person at the NCAA who approved the medical redshirt? If not, than your source can indeed get better.

I just had someone else PM me and say that they heard Ross' dad said Ross got the redshirt. No offense to Mr. Homan, but parents aren't always in the loop or given the right info.

What surprises me is that Lawrence Wilson suffered an even more serious injury on the very first game of the season season (2007) for which you said Homan got a redshirt, and yet you aren't pitching a fuss for his being listed as a senior although the OSU "official website" also has him listed as a redshirt for 2007 (and his page is also a year and a half out of date).

How about JT himself?

"However, due to a toe injury that required surgery, Tressel thinks that Homan is done for the regular season.

?I do,? he said. ?Yeah.?

In fact, linebackers coach Luke Fickell said on Wednesday that he thinks Homan will take a redshirt this year (since he played in four games or less and was then injured, he is eligible for a redshirt)."
As for Wilson IF I KNOW FOR SURE I would have posted his also.

The part about the % of the season isn't current in that link. 30% of the season's contests (rounded up) has been the rule for all seasons involving current players on the roster. So up to 4 games may be played in a 12 or 13 game season, as long as they were all in the first 6 games of the season, in order to apply for a medical hardship waiver ("medical redshirt").

Thanks I said in another thread I have seen both percentages. Is there a link for the above for future reference?

I knew I had just posted it, but it took me a few minutes to find it. It was in the Robert Rose thread.

The rule is frequently misquoted. The change from 20% to 30% occurred prior to the 2005 season, for all athletes that enrolled after August 1, 2004, so it's now in effect for every Buckeye on the roster.

www.ncaapublications.com/PDF/Division_1_Manual_2008

14.2.6.3.1

a) The competition occurred prior to the completion of the first half of the championship segment of
the institution's declared playing and practice season; and

(b) The student-athlete did not compete in more than three events or 30 percent (whichever number
is greater) of the institution's scheduled or completed events in his or her sport. All competition
(including a scrimmage) against outside participants shall be countable under this limitation in
calculating both the number of events in which the student-athlete participated and the number
of scheduled or completed events during that season (both segments) in the sport.

(Revised: 8/4/05, 1/14/08 applicable to student-athletes who initially enrolled full time in a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/04)

The red portion of your quote (where is this quote from...how about a source or a link?) only mention that Tressel says he thinks that Homan is done for the season...the is zero mention of redshirt.

The blue portion of your quote (again, where are you pulling this stuff from?) has Fickell saying he think Homan will redshirt this year (2007 is "this year" from the quote I guess). I'm guessing the "(since he played in four games or less and was then injured, he is eligible for a redshirt)" portion is you, and not a quote from Fickell...if so, then you haven't been listening when we told you that he's eligible to apply for a medical redshirt after using up all his normal eligibility.

Dude your guess would be wrong!!! None of that is from me, it's from Bucknut's, "Thursday Afternoon Update, date 8 Nov 07 By Dave Biddle". Look Homan was being talked about I answered a question please do not take it so personal it was not intended that way. I know the rule; the way it was explained to me was because Homan did not take a redshirt his freshman year they granted a redshirt to him in 07. You do a great job on this site and I know you know more than I about most these guys.

After doing some further research, there are two types of waivers involved. One is called an "extension waiver", and only comes into play when the 6th year of eligibility is requested.

So an athlete like Homan, who suffers a season-ending injury in the first half of the season and participated in no more than 30% of the team's games, and hadn't yet had a "non-playing" season; the medical hardship waiver may be granted in order to give him 5 seasons to play 4, with the injury season becoming the redshirt year since one wasn't taken previously.

It appears that only when the extension waiver is involved does the athlete has to wait in order to apply for the 6th season.

So I'd say that Homan has received the hardship waiver already, and should be moved to the junior column.

Now there's exactly the type of clarification we needed...

Done. The adjusted total now has us with only 15 ships to give for the 2010 class...

Check my post here. Once we get confirmation he got a redshirt, I'll add him back on.

Makes sense. Thanks for the hard work Mili, I was trying to get my own created folders straight, and it took me awhile to notice that Wilson was the difference between 83 and 84 schollies, so it threw me for a loop until I found it. Sorry if you have already been badgered about LW :)

The chart is absolutely great.

Keith Wells is on the participation reports for Troy, Minnesota, and MSU. Those lists aren't perfect, but he's the only #94 on the roster, so they're probably correct in his case.

I do remember KW seeing limited time this year. I concur with the participation report.
