Scholarship Breakdown by Position and Recruiting Class

I'll try and cover most questions asked since the draft was posted:

I took Justin Boren off because he's not on scholarship. I had him on there originally, with a notation, just to keep track of how many "scholarship-level" OL we had and because he was new to the team after his transfer. From now on, regardless if a player is a starter/potential starter or not, if he's not on scholarship he won't be listed.

Rowell's situation still seems uncertain. I'll keep him on the chart until we get definite confirmation he's not on the team or on scholarship. Did he even enroll yet?

I'll shift Kerr over. As for Homan, did he get the medical redshirt? I don't fully trust the OSU bios...they've been wrong before. My understanding was that you had to wait until all your normal eligiblity is used up until you can apply for the medical redshirt.

I think you're right about the medical redshirt procedure - if you have Homan as a junior, you may want to add a note that he has the potential to get another year due to a medical redshirt. It obviously won't affect the schollie count until he's in the senior column next year.

Homan has been granted a redshirt. Because he had not taken a redshirt yet, he was granted an additional year. So why they are calling it a medical redshirt, in reality he was granted a redshirt for that year.

Wrong. Homan couldn't have gotten a regular RS in 2007 since he played the first 3 games at least...I know he played in the Washington game. I don't believe he can apply for a med RS for that year until his eligibility has been exhausted under the normal timeline, so that means he will be a senior this year, with the option for applying after the 2009 season for a med RS.

Call it what ever you want and I know the rule, but the fact is he will be a redshirt JR this year. You are correct though you can not apply for a MRS untill after your last year of play. Thats why I called it more of a redshirt than a MRS. I know for a fact though Homan has two years togo!!!!!

Not doubting your source at all....but technically he will be a senior until he receives the med rs from the NCAA. And I think we all are fully expecting that to happen so we can expect to see Mr. Homan around for another year!

So although Homan has been on the field in the 2006, 2007, and 2008 seasons, you "know for a fact he will be a redshirt junior this year" even though you yourself agree that "you can not apply for a MRS untill after your last year of play". Enlighten us as to how that can be...

GoBEARCATS.com - Official Athletics Website of the University of Cincinnati
Five-Year Clock ("Five to Play Four")

Each student-athlete must utilize all seasons of competition within five (5) years of initially enrolling full-time at a college or university.

Red Shirting

Red shirting is not an official NCAA term, but the term is used when a student-athlete does not participate in any competition during a particular academic year (i.e., neither in the championship nor the non-championship segment of the playing season). A student-athlete may be red-shirted at any point in his/her athletic career. A "medical red shirt" is not an official NCAA term either, but the term is used when a student-athlete is injured after participating in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year and then qualifies for a Medical Hardship Waiver. More detailed information regarding Medical Hardship Waivers is included below.

Medical Hardship Waiver

If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:

(a) the student-athlete's injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete's senior year in high school;

(b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and

(c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution's scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).

Like I said I know it was granted last year. Do I know all the details as to how and why no. Take a look at the ohiostatebuckeye web site "the office site for Ohio state" they have Homan as a SO in 2008 season, so they awarded the RS last year.

As I've said earlier, that website has had errors before. Heck, look at his "official bio" at it's frickin' over a year and a half old (released 06/29/2007)...they don't even have his 2008 season listed. Although it's supposed to be OSU's "official athletic website" it has never been totally accurate or up-to-date.

You say you know the rules about medical redshirts and yet you insist he has one when according to the rules, as we here at BP have researched and know them, that's not possible.

All I will say my source cannot get any better. But cool it is what it is!!!!

Regardless of the exact status of one player here and there, props to Milli and the BP team for keeping this as accurate as possible. I know I kept my own for years and it is a living bitch to keep up with, you are never going to have it 100% dead accurate imo.

You know the person at the NCAA who approved the medical redshirt? If not, than your source can indeed get better.

I just had someone else PM me and say that they heard Ross' dad said Ross got the redshirt. No offense to Mr. Homan, but parents aren't always in the loop or given the right info.

What surprises me is that Lawrence Wilson suffered an even more serious injury on the very first game of the season season (2007) for which you said Homan got a redshirt, and yet you aren't pitching a fuss for his being listed as a senior although the OSU "official website" also has him listed as a redshirt for 2007 (and his page is also a year and a half out of date).

OK, I've moved Kerr back to redshirt-junior-eligibility and adjusted his class from 2005 to 2006 since that's the year he came here, and adjusted the junior total from 16 to 17 (which reduces our number of schollies available for 2010 from 17 to 16). I also removed Wilson from the senior column because he has played in all four years and, as far as I've heard, has not had his medical redshirt for 2007 approved yet.

This is on the real chart. The draft chart has been deleted.
