Scholarship Breakdown by Position and Recruiting Class

So, we have given out our 25 scholarships correct? What if say, a guy like Chris Freeman says he wants to commit to Ohio State? Do we have to remove one of our scholarship offers to say, one of our three star recruits to make it happen? Or is there some kind of loop hole?

Early enrollees count against last year's total...so the real number we are up against is the total of 85 scholarships. This class will likely number somewhere around 28 or so.

Freeman would need an OSU offer for that to happen is there is a roughly 0.00001% chance of that happening.

We are planning on Hall. 25 is definitely a flexible number.

Are the star rankings Scout or Rivals?
If it is Scout, Sabino may be listed incorrectly.

Scout.com: Etienne Sabino Profile

Also, did he wear #11 the whole season or did he switch back to #6?
Etienne Sabino Biography - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com - 11
Ohio State Football Roster: coachtressel.com - 6

Star rankings are the highest of the two. I must've flat out forgot to update him on the chart, because I do have him as a 5-star in the 2008 Recruiting Database. I think he has been #11 all season and I think he'll keep that number. I'll change his humber on the chart at the next update. Good catch(es)...

So with Beanie, Washington and Hartline heading for the draft, that leaves a total of 82 roster spots (assuming no transfers) accounted for, correct? That would allow, possibly, with early enrollment, up to 3 more in this class. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Or actually 2 if you count Boren?....

Or 3 if you don't count Rowell?....

Justin Boren isn't a scholarship player, so he doesn't count. Although I have a note in the chart that explains he's not a scholarship player, I should remove him from the chart to avoid confusion, even if he does become a starter.

Since we have 24 commits and are allowed 25 signees per recruiting class, we can take one more commit without having anyone enroll early. If we have two enroll early we can take three more commits (two of them being applied to the 2008 class, keeping our 2009 class at 25).

It's actually pretty clear on your chart. I guess I interpreted it, though, that he wasn't on scholarship yet, but that it would kick in next year. I forgot about the whole discussion on previous pages.....my bad.

And the fact that the previous class was 27 (counting Rowell) doesn't prevent "adding more" by early enrollment from this class? On second thought, I have no idea how many of those enrolled early and were applied to the 16 of the prior year....

Back to work :(

I don't believe Justin Boren will be on scholarship ever at Ohio State. A Big Ten policy is that no player that transfer from a B10 school to another B10 school will be on schoalrship (think John Kerr).

Correct. That's why I'm probably going to remove Justin from the chart...

Don't know where you're getting 27 for the previous (2008) class.

That's because you're correct and I'm wrong :!

I was (quickly) looking over the scholarship breakdown over lunch and ignored the color coding. I was interpreting each column to indicate which year each given player signed, rather than their eligibility. My earlier question is therefore irrelevant with regard to the current class.

Four guys have already enrolled.

Mewhort, Boren, Homan, and Klein were confirmed to already be enrolled by a tOSU spokesperson.

I am guessing that Wilson comes back. Given that Washington, Hartline and Beanie leave, we have 2 more schollies to give out. Depending on Small and Torrence, I would expect a total of 4 more schollies for this class. Does that sound accurate?
