Scholarship Breakdown by Position and Recruiting Class

8/8

Bauserman now has a full-ride scholarship from tOSU.

From the article:
Bauserman joined OSU as a walk-on last season and the Pirates picked up some of his tuition due to a clause in his contract. He had a rough time in preseason camp and wasn?t sharp throwing the football after such a long break from the sport. However, Bauserman began to turn the corner during bowl camp and then really made his mark with a strong spring.

...

And now, Bauserman is a scholarship member of the football team. Tressel didn't think it was fair that only a portion of Bauserman's tuition was being picked up. And beyond that, Bauserman simply earned the scholarship with his play in the spring.

Updated with Bauserman being on football scholarship now. Already one over on our limit (one commit currently plans on enrolling early enough to count against the 2008 class, so we're cool for now), so it'll be interesting to see how we can work in a few more commits to this class...

OSU handed out 5 schollies to walk ons. Four were to seniors (Ruhl, Kascandi, Ebner and Larson) which is the norm. The fifth went to McQuaide - the long snapper. He is only a soph, so unless that is a one year ship (Dispatch says it is not) that takes away a number from next years class.

LB/DE Mark Johnson has quit the team, so McQuaide is getting Johnson's ship, so it's a wash. Updated the chart to reflect that...

Good for McQuade.. but why cant we get a lineman on scholarship to handle long snapping? Instead we give schollies to walk ons who do this job.. Why not just teach an on-scholarship player to snap, and save the scholarship?

Being a consistent long snapper is one of most difficult skills to master. Why not also ask, "Why can't we just have one of the regular players handle place kicking and punting duties and save those scholarships?".

Occasionally you'll get a scholarship lineman who can snap good enough to be a long snapper, but by and large the time needed to hone and maintain the snapping skills needed takes a lot of time away that could be spent on blocking practice.

So, we have given out our 25 scholarships correct? What if say, a guy like Chris Freeman says he wants to commit to Ohio State? Do we have to remove one of our scholarship offers to say, one of our three star recruits to make it happen? Or is there some kind of loop hole?
