Sam "L" McGuffie (Olympic Bobsled Team)

You would think that McGuffie would do better in RR's offense than the traditional scum offense. Either way I dont much care who they recruit as long as that western PA guy is on our team.

LOL, I totally agree. As long as we get the WPennsylvania Jackpot...it don't matter what they do. But, after hearing Sam's family hardship story, I will root for this guy. I like him, plus he's JB's good buddy---that does it for me!
Plus, everybody seemed to like him throughout camp, I think he actually performed, and he almost sort of transcends race, society and stereotypes so to speak. Maybe thats a stretch, but you get my point.

For what it's worth, I have to say, I really don't root against Michigan all the time, (like Florida for instance, and against the domers,) and I think we really need them and the rest of the B10 to be strong, as strong as possible, just weaker than us. So that our cred doesn't suffer and so that we don't have to hear the constant barrage of B%^$%%#@$ about the SEC and USC that I personally am SICK TO DEATH OF!!!!!

I wish the kid well after hearing about his worthless parents and what he has had to go through. But I'll have to say I wasn't all that impressed yesterday...then again, he was facing a much-higher level of competition than he had ever faced before.

I totally agree, my post was more about him than his performance yesterday. We 'll shut him down cold...I'm sure!!

hasnt signed his LOI yet, kind of weird but i did see a houston chronicle article that says he might be getting cold feet but im sure he'll stick to his commitment, apparently he visited cal and tedford made a big impression on him and Texas A&M made a late push as well, the article mentions that he skipped out at his schools signing day conference today and went home, kind of interesting to see he didnt sign today and he mentions he might take a little more time but i think he'l stick to his verbal in the end.

Been discussed in the Recruiting Tidbits thread and the scUM recruiting thread. Right now, he appears to be seriously reconsidering his verbal to ttun with Cal and aTm back in the mix. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he spurned scUM at this point.

McGuffie struggled with Michigan pick
A day after all the madness, Sam McGuffie felt like the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders.

The pressure the Cy-Fair running back and Michigan signee felt Wednesday, national signing day, was almost too much for the 18-year-old.

"I thought I was going to have a heart attack and die," said McGuffie, who created a frenzy by skipping Cy-Fair's signing day ceremony while he sat at home, contemplating his college decision. "I couldn't sleep all night."

Though he verbally committed to Michigan in July, a recent visit to California had him seriously considering joining the Bears. Part of him loved the appeal of coach Jeff Tedford and the Bears while another part of him still liked the Wolverines. On Wednesday, he got cold feet.

"I was locked up in my house trying to decide where I wanted to go," McGuffie said. "It was too (hard) to choose. It wasn't a long list — Cal and Michigan — but it's where you're going to be for the next four years, and I wanted to make sure I was making the right choice.

"I really liked (Cal's) offense. And coach Tedford was a great guy. I haven't met too many people like him in my life. Plus, California was beautiful. I had never been there before, and it's a great place."

An SI writer has tossed Doug Donley's nickname at McGuffie.

White lightning
Michigan-bound rusher is comfortable in his own skin

Two middle-schoolers stood in a backyard in Cypress, Texas, five years ago. Chris Lathrop and his family had recently moved to town, and Lathrop had invited one of his new friends to the house. The kid couldn't stop staring at the Lathrops' jungle gym. Finally, the kid moved. The little bundle of fast-twitch fibers sprinted toward a support post that ran from the jungle gym into the ground. He ran up the post, flipped backward and landed on his feet.

"That's when I knew he was a freak," Lathrop said.

Cont'd ...
