Kyle Flood reacts to report he is being investigated by Rutgers

PISCATAWAY – Kyle Flood defended his behavior Tuesday in response to a report that he is being investigated for possible impermissible contact with a university faculty member.

At the crux of the investigation is the content of an email Flood allegedly sent from a personal account to a faculty member at the Mason Gross School of Arts regarding the status of Nadir Barnwell, as first reported by NJ Advance Media.

Barnwell, a Piscataway native and the team’s top cornerback, is known to be in jeopardy of being ruled academically inelgibile.

Flood could face a public reprimand, suspension or termination from his contract if his action is found to have been in failure with compliance, the report said.

“Let me start by saying I'm disappointed at the tone of the article that (media relations official) Hasim (Phillips) showed me this morning,” Flood told reporters before practice. “I've been the head coach now this is going into my fourth season and I've had a lot of interaction with the teachers on our campus.

“I think that that article not only insults my integrity but it insults the integrity of our faculty. I've come to realize that our faculty here at Rutgers is beyond reproach and I have a tremendous amount of respect for them. Our faculty are a part of our program. Just as recently as the other day, we had two faculty members at our practice.”

“Any correspondence that I had with a professor in regards to a student-athlete would really be of this nature. One, to be in support of whatever decision that faculty member made. And two, to inquire as to whether or not there would be an opportunity to earn a better grade. This practice is not unusual at Rutgers. Many students all over campus receiver what are called”'t grades" -- doing work outside of when the class ends that semester to earn a better grade.”

The 2015 season may not start off with a bit of controversy off the field for Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood. NJ.com reports today Flood is being investigated for impermissible contact with a university faculty member over the status of one of his players. The report suggests Flood could ultimately face a suspension, or perhaps even be fired, although that is purely speculation at this point in time. Either way, it sure makes it sound serious.

Per NJ.com‘s Keith Sargeant, the investigation at Rutgers is centered on an email from Flood’s personal email account to a faculty member of Rutgers’ arts school. The player in question is reportedly cornerback Nadir Barnwell, a junior. Barnwell reportedly faces academic ineligibility for the upcoming season. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the punishment Flood could face ranges from a public reprimand to a termination of his contract with the university. If the worst-case scenario plays out, Flood could potentially be out of a job before the start of the season, as the investigation is expected to be wrapped up in short order.

UPDATE (1:40 p.m.): Flood has now responded to the story, suggesting the accusations insult his integrity. His comments, via NJ.com;

“Let me start by saying I’m disappointed at the tone of the article that (associate athletic director for media relations/football) Hasim (Phillips) showed me this morning. I’ve been the head coach now, this is going into my fourth season, and I’ve had a lot of interaction with the teachers on our campus. I think that that article not only insults my integrity, but insults the integrity of our faculty. I’ve come to realize that our faculty here at Rutgers is beyond reproach and I have a tremendous amount of respect for them.

“Our faculty are part of our program. Just as recently as the other day, we had two faculty members at our practice. Now, any correspondence that I had with a professor in regard to a student-athlete would really be of this nature: One, to be in support of whatever decision that faculty member made, and two, to inquire as to whether or not there would be an opportunity to earn a better grade. Will Flood be the second coach in the conference fired before his first game of the season?

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood defied academic support staff when he contacted professor, sources say

PISCATAWAY -- Rutgers coach Kyle Flood was told by the university's academic support staff not to contact a university professor regarding the academic status of a likely starting defensive player and did so anyway, two university officials told NJ Advance Media.

The university's office of ethics and compliance, with help from outside counsel, is investigating an email Flood allegedly sent from a private account to a Mason Gross faculty member regarding the status of Nadir Barnwell.

The two officials, who requested anonymity because the investigation into whether Flood violated university policy is ongoing, said the inquiry isn't simply about an email sent from Flood's private account.

"It's about Kyle trying to circumvent the process and trying to get the kid eligible,'' one of the university officials told NJ Advance Media.

I have an insider perspective on this... Rutgers' profs THINK they're the shit... They are very arrogant...
most folks actually have a perception Rutgers is Ivy League... well, the profs think it too.. they want to show all who is boss

My daughter (Rutgers grad) went to a prof one day during his open hours.. and he flat out told her to contact another student... it was beneath him
and that wasn't the only time a prof acted that way...

"Academic support staff".. the term alone amuses me... actually pisses me off...

So it doesn't surprise me that an arrogant prof would do this... heaven forbid they would see this as an attempt to work together and help a student athlete.. or any student
My youngest wanted to go to Rutgers and I did my best to steer him away because of this attitude and experiences... He'll go there for grad school but hopefully the med school has a different and helpful attitude... we'll do our homework

What fan base do you like?

Hell, I don't like half of ours!

That being said, I root for all Big Ten teams out of conference except the pedsters and UM since Harbaugh arrived. I have a soft spot for Washington and Nevada-Reno (grew up there). Love watching Longhorn fan wallow in their unrealistic expectations coming up short once again. Fuck the SEC. Fuck Fredo and Beavis for what they did to Ohio State in the 60s. Fuck Miami of Florida and FSU because. Fuck the domers always. Fuck USC. You can add Baylor to that list until Briles leaves and nobody cares anymore. Beyond that, my college football rooting is purely situational in terms of how it effects Ohio State.
