Also, I enjoyed their football contributions to the conference in year 1: Won a P5 game early, won a bowl game, beat Michigan, trolled the fuck out of the cult, played a fairly entertaining brand of ball . . . They need to get much more physical if they want to compete with the big boys of the conference, but overall they showed well.

LOL. I'm actually in university administration.

So, yes, I agree with matcar's sentiment of the faculty being out of touch with reality. However, ORD is also right about them being well aware of the academic pecking order. After all, that is a product of their constant navel-gazing.

I'll just say this. The two distinct and highly educated groups that I've probably spent the most time with on a social basis since leaving the Foreign Service have been university professors and partners at "big law." While it was at different times and under different circumstances, I will take spending time with the professors over the Winston & Strawn and Sidley partners any day of the week..

PS if you draw a circle around the Ivy schools... Rutgers and Columbia are smack in the middle...

So are NYU, Pace, CUNY, Fordham, St Johns, Hofstra, etc. Not sure what comparison there is between Rutgers and Columbia.

I'm biased towards Columbia. Rutgers probably compares a lot more favorably with the riffraff up at Dartmouth, the Cornell farmers, or those jokers down at UPenn.
