RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

I would love to see Smith in the backfield, as long as he knows the offense and runs the right direction every single play. The fact that he has moved up in the depth chart suggests that he is getting closer. When he's there, I'm one of those who expect that he could be the next major weapon for the offense.

I totally agree. He has earned his way onto the field, and I hope he makes the most of his opportunities. It's good to hear he's working so hard and earning the trust of Coach Meyer.

Rod is a beast. He's scrappy, athletic, and passionate. I want to see him get some real playing time, as I feel like he has the tools to succeed in this offense until Meyer gets his guys in here. Love Jordan Hall, but people really over-hype his "explosiveness." Also, he's a senior and won't help us out much when it really matters.

I think Rod moving up the depth chart may be more of a reflection of Brionte's grasp of the playbook. It was clear in the UCF game that Dunn was lost at times on the field. I think the coaching staff has simply decided to weigh Rod's fumblitis against Dunn's substantial learning curve.

FYI - This year matters. And he's helping us out a lot. He holds onto the ball. He's the best receiving back we have. He's averaging over 5 yds a carry. AND he's the
best blocking back we have.

COLUMBUS ? The door was open for Rod Smith to leave the Ohio State football team.

Sitting down with the sophomore running back shortly after the turn of the new year, OSU coach Urban Meyer couldn?t have been more blunt.

?The conversation in January is ?You?re probably not going to make it. It?s probably best you move on and play somewhere you can play, because it?s obvious you?re not good enough to be here,? ? Meyer said on Monday, recalling the conversation that day.

There wasn?t much of a gray area, especially when Meyer admitted he pulled the transfer papers out of his desk and offered to sign them on the spot.

Smith turned down the offer.

If there is one person who is surprised where Smith is today ? No. 2 on the Ohio State depth chart ? it?s probably Meyer.
