RB

Piggy-backing off the comment regarding Smith's height: I said a few years ago that he would serve better as an H-Back/Wide Receiver. He was a SG / Swing forward on his basketball team in HS, he's plenty athletic. Imagine him replacing Stoneburner next running drag routes in the open field with his natural running ability.

Fifth Down: Rod Smith
Sophomore running back makes most of appearance against UAB
Updated: September 27, 2012
By Brad Bournival | BuckeyeNation

When Rod Smith found the end zone in Ohio State's 29-15 win over the University of Alabama-Birmingham last weekend, it not only ended the Buckeyes' scoring drought, it showed the trust Urban Meyer has put in his redshirt sophomore running back.

Thrust into the backup role behind Jordan Hall, Smith finished the game with 24 yards on six carries and the touchdown.

Rod Smith picked up 24 yards on six carries against UAB.

In high school, Smith was a workhorse, carrying the ball 1,000 times for 6,625 yards and 66 touchdowns at Fort Wayne (Ind.) Paul Harding High School.

He was also an all-conference basketball player and state runner-up on the 4x100-meter relay team.

BN: What did it mean for coach Urban Meyer to trust you in the most important part of the game against UAB?

Quietly making bigger and bigger contributions - 63 all purpose yards yesterday, a TD and some blocking ahead of Philly Brown's punt return for the TD.... if the switch hasn't been flipped completely on, its about half way up for Rod... hope he can keep it up

I liked the part where he dipped his shoulder when the defender went to strip the ball from behind and ended up hitting Rod square in the back. Making strides in the ball security department. Nice.

He is, but on the TD run he did bobble the ball a bit on the exchange from Braxton before taking care of business.

i love that he has passion. every play he's super excited to contribute.

What I noticed last night was that every time one of the running backs made a play, the first guy to greet him on the sideline was the other RBs...they seem like a tight group, Hyde, Rod, Dunn
