RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

I want to see him carry the ball, at least once!

UAB will probably give him an opportunity, I'd guess. especially if hyde is out again.

Smith seems like he's in the doghouse, imo. And I honestly don't see him getting carries next week, while we still try to work in hall, Braxton will of course get carries, as will Philly brown. After that boren and Dunn will most likely get the rest like in the first 2 wks. It doesn't seem like he'll have much impact unless we have some serious injuries at rb.

Based on what? He's not playing because we've got guys in front of him that the coaches think have earned it more than Smith. That's been pretty well documented.

Based on his inability to comprehend the playbook and play with consistency. That tends to get you in the coaches doghouse. Just like it did last year, along with his fumbling problems.

Where did you dig this up?

Big difference between sitting on the bench and being in the doghouse. The former is not playing because you're not talented enough or the game situation does not allow you to play. The latter is being kept out of the game because of bad mistakes/bad attitude/failure to meet responsibilities.

Urban Meyer says Rod Smith has passed Bri'onte Dunn as the No. 3 RB behind Jordan Hall and Carlos Hyde.

Was going to mention this. Just mentioned on his call-in show on 97.1.

Having the head coach forget your name during post-game pressers is good motivation to bring the juice at practice.

I absolutely LOVE to hear this. Not because it tells me anything bad about Dunn because he is a stud and will get his playing time eventually. What it tells me is that we have healthy competion, Rod is getting better and we do in fact have a stable of good backs. With all the injuries we were certainly testing how deep we were. Nice work Rod!

So does this mean he'll see the field until Hyde gets back?

Don't count on it, at least not much. The way they rode Jordan Saturday leads one to believe they don't trust anyone in the offense outside of Braxton/Jordan/Philly/Carlos.

I, for one, would love to see a Hall/Smith/Braxton backfield, super diverse.
