RB Michael Weber (New Jersey Generals)

We can all talk about how we feel bad for Mike but at the end of the day this is college football. This is big business.

Was Mike honest with Ohio State when he took a secret visit to Michigan last weekend?

Was Michigan honest with Mike about being the only back in this class before accepting a verbal from Higdon?

Do you think it was a coincidence that the news about the quarterback transferring to Michigan came out after they had signed two quarterbacks in this class on signing day?

This is the way recruiting works nowadays. It's all about salesmanship. Coaches are paid to win, plain and simple.

What did your avatar said just a week or so ago about trusting UFM?? No one said that MW is not a good fit for our system; we are talking about a coach that he has trusted until the last hour before signing. Yes, that does matter; have some compassion on the kid as he is obviously in distraught by all this. If that was Justin Hilliard signing with Michigan, you would be the first one to bitch.

My son would know to commit to a school and a system that enhances his talents and gets him ready for the NFL and provide him with a degree. I would never have him put complete trust in men also looking to pad their wallets and build resumes by going to bigger schools or the NFL. This wouldn't make me ever pull my kid out of the school. Weber fits our system and could be a starter by a sophomore, that should mean more than a position coach leaving

@y0yoyoin , yes I believe Beckner still goes to Mizzou

I think you're off-base if you don't think pnuts has compassion for these kids. Let's tone down the hostility a tad, eh?

Dishonesty is not something we should simply accept on the basis of being a "big business."

Not really the same thing considering the relative experience of the parties involved. And, if it is the same thing, what does that say about a marriage that starts with both sides lying to each other?

Was Michigan honest with Mike about being the only back in this class before accepting a verbal from Higdon?

If Michigan didn't know whether they'd have Weber in their class, it was perfectly acceptable for them to pursue and accept the commitment of another back. If Weber had given them some assurances that he would go to Ann Arbor, then yes, I would agree.

Either way, just because lying and shady things go on at other schools does not mean we have to accept it HERE.

This is the way recruiting works nowadays. It's all about salesmanship. Coaches are paid to win, plain and simple.

And if they have trouble recruiting because they get a reputation for being dishonest with high school players and their families? How, exactly, does that help with salesmanship and winning?

Idk where I'm not being compassionate. I understand hes distraught, but like I said, this happens to every school every yea . OSU is no different. I'm sure he had just as much trust in Urban who is still the coach BTW. We will hire a new RB coach and none of this will matter by the time the season starts if not spring practice. And no, I wouldn't be bitching at all if Hilliard chose scUM, Iowa, ITT tech or Cincinnati St. The kid has to choose what's best for him At the end of the day. I don't expect any recruit to appease me being a fan of OSU. I'll pray he has a long and prosperous career and able to get his degree and move on to the NFL, and if that doesn't work out be a productive member of our society. Like I said, commit to a school, not a coach.

Granted there's some stink on this one but...

Is there any doubt Urban's replacement is going to be ELITE... wouldn't you love to see the list of applicants that are burning up that fax machine
My God, think of it.. is there any RB coach that wouldn't want to be the RB coach at tOSU?
Is there any doubt tOSU is the best place for any RB in the USA

What if Drayton interviewed and did not get the job?
would any of this be relevant
Would some of the same folks screaming then say 'see, Drayton's not good enough to get to the next level'?

When all is said and done, I highly suspect
Urban will select the replacement, introduce him to Weber then ask... what would you like to do son
and BTW we're going for back-to-back National Championships

OSU should be different!
Everybody should be different, but they aren't. If you think every school, or if not every, a very large majority, wouldn't do the same thing, you're fooling yourself. Not saying it's right, but this is big time CFB. It's a business. That's just the way things are. We can get all indignant, but it's just the way things are. You want to win/compete with the big boys, you have to play the game.

And there are reports out there that Drayton was interviewed by the Bears yesterday morning, and accepted in the afternoon. Sure, it's a convenient story, but it's entirely possible that's how things went down.

Well said.

To have the same expectations for a 17 year old kid and a program like OSU is a little extreme to me. I'd have no problems with this if Drayton informed Weber and his family of the potential of him leaving, and hey maybe that happened and we aren't privy to it but based on the reaction by Weber I'd say I don't think that happened.

We can all love and hail our favorite program but that doesn't mean for a second that OSU is a perfect being without mistakes. No amount of 'trust the coaches' and 'this is the cost of being the best' will cover the fact of some, IMO, unethical recruiting tactics.
