RB Michael Weber (New Jersey Generals)

Would it be fair to the buckeyes if he flipped 48 hours before signing day or on signing day after being committed? or is this a one way fairness street?

It is not a one way fairness street it is a two way fairness street...you are exactly right on this...its not fair to the buckeyes or the fans that a kid flips on signing day...to me this just comes down to a kid in high school vs a grown man recruiting a kid to come play at a university...we all saw the reports of drayton and meyer talking to weber for a long period of time before signing day, and meyer even saying he wasnt sure if he was coming here...and no doubt zeke elliot was huge in his recruitment...and we all do not know what was said to weber the night before signing day on the phone but I am sure it had nothing to do with a conversation about Drayton leaving in a day for the Bears job...if that was the case weber wouldnt of posted that comment on twitter about being hurt...like i said I see both sides and again I think Drayton is the man for loving the buckeyes so much that he announces after the ink is dry on paper for a recruit before leaving...wish him well at the bears...he has a pretty good RB there to work with

You're kind of making the point for a lot of people. It WOULDN'T be fair, and I'd be pretty pissed. As I was when the rumors of a last second flip came out. I said it would be a classless move and I stand by that. It'd be contradictory of me to say anything other than that this situation is exactly the same, and that this was a classless move. He obviously knew about this job, even if it was only a potential job offer at the time. You don't want to be called slimy, classless, dirty? "hey, also just to let you know I'm in consideration for a different position. Now there's a chance I'll be here, but there's a chance I'm not. So even though you should always be committed to the school and not a coach, I wanted to let you know there's a possibility I won't be here." if Weber decided to go to UM with that logic then so be it, even if Drayton didn't get the job.

It'd be like being very unsure about someone, but going through with the marriage. And then the next day finding out she has a dick. But still has a great personality, so maybe some of you would be cool with that.

IMO, everyone needs to calm down. If it's fair that Weber took a "secret" visit to Michigan and could've committed to Michigan as a result, then it seems it's fair for a position coach to move on to greener pastures after commitment. If you think a position coach (even at reigning national champs OSU) is a destination job, well, that's just not reality.

I think you're leaving out one major component: Drayton clearly knew about the possibility of getting the job, if not straight up knowing he had it. You're basically saying since one party lied about something it's fine that the other party lied. Just doesn't sit well with me. We're not talking about him getting the job in a couple weeks, clearly a new offer to him. He took it the day after NSD.

Weber will play for Urban, do well in his system, and who knows one day will be coached by Stan in the next level. Be happy for Stan. Don't moan, don't feel sorry for yourself. That is the last thing you want to do to stay on Urban's good side. Come in, work like a horse, do your school work, stay clean, be a leader by example and Urban will absolutely take care of you. Simple.

Yeah I won't lie I'm disappointed with Drayton leaving like this. I mean congrats to him because I'm sure he's about to double his salary but you have to think our staff knew he was gone after signing day. I really wish we would've been straight up with MW and if it meant he went to scum then so be it but I do not condone holding back information. A guy that's 18 years old and about to make a big decision that'll impact his life deserve to have all of the information on the table in order to make that decision. Disappointed in how we handled this but none the less I hope Michael knows that he is still going to a better situation. Less pressure, can learn from Zeke, better offense, and a proven ability now to utilize bigger backs.

Not disappointed in Drayton but rather our staff for keeping this hush hush

Didn't Urban state the EzE was a main reason for Weber coming to OSU? A coach will hurt, but the players and guys who will be in the trenches have gone no where

Not telling him that Drayton was leaving was classless. It was also IMO counterproductive. First, no one recruit makes or breaks a program. Second, how much does it hurt you with current players and future recruits when you're selling family and trust? If I'm Coach Wilcher at Cass Tech., I'm thinking hard about what I tell my players the next time Ohio State comes 'round. For that matter, did EzE know Drayton was leaving? If so, Weber might not love him so much now. If not, he's probably not happy about being unknowingly complicit in convincing Weber to come on board without full information.

I suspect that Weber will get over it and it will all work out, but it doesn't make it any less classless or dumb.
