RB Michael Weber (New Jersey Generals)

I'm not sure why folks have a hard Time acknowledging that mistakes were made. It's really not a question of taking this too personally it's just a mistake in handling this and it's pretty obvious the kid is disappointed. His disappointment is understandable.

Can everyone move along successfully? I'm sure they can. But that doesn't take away from the fact that this was poorly executed and not necessary.

Now this board has devolved into meaningless attacks on various posters for acknowledging what the kid is feeling. Nobody is falling off any ledges here, I think people are just trying to admit that this wasn't handled well.

Maybe it's just me, but I know I wouldn't even be talking about it if this were another school....
I know I instantly thought it was garbage that the UCLA DC did exactly the same thing. I'm sure I was looking down my nose at it when it happened under Urban in Florida.

It doesn't mean much that a RB coach is leaving if you look at the whole picture of OSU athletics. I'm sure he's going to be replaced by somebody just as good. Ezekiel Elliot isn't going to forget how to be awesome because of this. It's just a crappy move to pull on kids (more than just Weber) who were lead to believe that he would be there at least for 2015. If it were possible, and somebody decomitted because of something like this, THAT would be excessive. Nobody commits to a school because of a position coach and nothing else. Weber will calm down and everything will be fine. But it's still a crappy move to pull.

I can't remember if I did back then - I don't think so though. I didn't know about the UCLA DC until BKB posted it. As I said, it's a life lesson for Mike. The timing absolutely sucks though.

I think we're assuming he was telling kids specifically that he was for sure going to be there or if the kids who interacted him assumed he was on the staff. It is what it is....it could be Drayton lied and has had informal contacts with John Fox for the week or so he's been the coach at Denver. Or it could be that Fox has been looking through coaching candidates that fit his style and Drayton's name came up on his list yesterday.

Either way - hopefully the focus will soon be on Weber and the great opportunity in front of him, not the actions of a coach no longer associated with the school behind him.

We don't, but I also know the odds of Drayton being informed by his agent of an interview, scheduling the same, doing the interview, and accepted the offer in that amount of time is, well....highly unlikely.

I would also suggest it is highly unlikely that if Drayton had accepted the Bears job prior to NSD that Harbaugh wouldn't have gotten wind of it through his NFL connections.

Never did I say that I didn't think OSU could have handled this differently. Never did I say that I can't sympathize with what Mike might be feeling. But to suggest that OSU should be held to a different standard makes no sense to me. You want to win games? Sometimes these are the types of residual effects that come with running a program that competes at the highest level. You can't just bury your head in the sand. This is recruiting in 2015. This is college football in 2015. Both sides assume a certain amount of risk.

All good discussion...either way.
