RB Lydell Ross (official thread)

quentin griffin also held the oklahoma bench press record for a while. he might be only a 190lbs, but it's completely different 190lbs from pittman.
I seriously doubt he held the bench press record at OU. Maybe among backs he did.
Anyways and again, I'm not talking about just his senior year. He weighed even less his sophomore year.

edit: I just found it. He benched 355 his senior year. That couldn't be an OU record.

I don't believe that our Offensive Line is the primary problem. Looking at the box score, the overwhelming majority of tackles went to NC State Linebackers, not the d-linemen. Linebackers with good speed get to the holes before our running back does.

At least until Pittman was in the game.

We love you Lydell. But we love the Buckeyes (THE TEAM) too.

I could care less whether the RB weighs 100 pounds or 300 pounds. Give me a back with good vision, the ability to hit the hole fast, and break tackles.

OK Vr, I'll bite.......?

I just see a lot of, "We need to do X [where X = some ingenious alternative that Jim Tressel seems to have overlooked]." Meanwhile, we won handily on the road against a very capable opponent. I have no problem whatsoever with Ross. He's no Eddie George. He's no Maurice Clarett. But it seems relatively clear to me that with the team we have, we don't need him to be. According to ESPN (not sure where this 1.8 YPC thing came from) he had 25 carries for 51 yards and a TD. That puts him - for the year - at 66 carries for 282 yards (4.27 per) and two TDs. I couldn't give less of a shit about what kind of stats our players end up with, but for the record, he's on pace for just over 1000 yards and 7 TDs. *shrug* I don't see the problem. Quite frankly, and maybe this is being run through in a different thread already, if we need to point fingers at someone over why the offense seemed mediocre at best today, some guy wearing #12 kept throwing passes behind, over the heads and at the feet of all his receivers.

Bottom line (for me) is this: Us - 22 Them - 14 Tressel can play whoever he damn well pleases. I just want the W. Sure, I think Pittman should see a few more carries. I suppose if I were the coach of a division 1-A juggernaut like Ohio State, I might do things a bit differently. Something tells me, though, that I wouldn't be 38-7 (or whatever his record is).

Balance

When I watch Ross run something I notice is that when someone touches him he falls down. Other backs don't do this. Sometimes he breaks the tackle only to fall over after he has broken it. I think his main problem is balance. If he gets knocked even a little bit off his center of balance he falls over. Do not laugh, but I think that if he took some ballet classes it would help him a lot. I see speed from him, and I see power, and sometimes I see vision, but he just doesn't control his body well. If he get more balance I think he could be a very good back.

I believe that JT is committed to seniors no matter how miserable there game in and game out play exhibits (Mr. Ross) It is amazing how porous our defense can look at times against the run and we know that we have a stud LB core trying to stop the run. Are other teams just that good that they can hold a OSU running back to a 1.8ypc average? Cincy, Marshall and NC State are not Wisconsin, Iowa and scUM. If this is all the better we can do then the BIG 10 season is going to be a long one.

Give Haw a jersey-->#30 would do I think.
True. But why? JT constantly preaches "best guy plays." Why do seniors get special dispensation? I know that Ross was voted Team Captain for a reason, but his game-day athleticism doesn't seem to be good enough to get the job done.

that is exactly what his problem is.
Lydell "i cant break arm tackels" ross.
Pittman needs to be in there pushing him to run better.

There is no doubt that Branden Joe would be getting more carries if he weren't hurt and I think the running game would be doing much better. We need that bruising back that we just haven't had for awhile now. I agree with most that we need to run Pitt, Haw, Ross and Joe when healthy.

If you watched the UT/Florida game last night you would have seen UT run 4 different backs during the game and succesfully when they ran. How about Wynn? I thought man he would have looked good in a Buckeye uni.
