RB Lydell Ross (official thread)

I think we need to use Pittman and Ross equally. This was a tough defense all around. Ross struggled with the same guys last year. I think Ross will have some big games...but I think using Pittman more just helps the offense in general.

Do you think Griffin only played in his senior year?

He had about a 100 more career carries than either Joe Washington or Billy Sims.
He is also their all time leading receiver

He had over 700 carries and 169 receptions. I'd say that's some serious durability for a small back.

I can list a lot of small backs that have been very durable and successful in the last ten years.
Walter Payton and Tony Dorsett were both small backs that had some talent and durability.

Barber is another current one.

Someone please tell me what being a 190 lb back in the NFL has to do with Pittman as a Buckeye?

I get so tired of hearing this lame arguement. Now, when the Buckeyes start playing on Sunday's, I'll start being concerned.

does anyone think that keeping a shirt on haw does any good?? this is tosu....they should be able to get a top 5 back at will......

I agree...throw Haw in the fire now. Hell, if Ringer, Wells, Wells, or Stewart come in...that's a solid stable of backs. Why waste a year if he can help now?

As always though, we don't know how well he is picking up the system

grad..you are correct about picking up the system.....

but mr. senior has made two huge mistakes in a couple of games...

he did the infamous run out of bounds play and he fumbled today....how in the heck did he not have both hands on the ball as he dove into the line today...??

I believe that JT is committed to seniors no matter how miserable there game in and game out play exhibits (Mr. Ross) It is amazing how porous our defense can look at times against the run and we know that we have a stud LB core trying to stop the run. Are other teams just that good that they can hold a OSU running back to a 1.8ypc average? Cincy, Marshall and NC State are not Wisconsin, Iowa and scUM. If this is all the better we can do then the BIG 10 season is going to be a long one.

Give Haw a jersey-->#30 would do I think.

If I were JT...
1st String RB: Antonio Pittman
2nd String RB: Eric Haw
3rd String RB: Mike Nugent -->The guy is all world, lets try him between the tackles.

Scout Team: Lydell and Maurice

Go Bucks!

With all due respect Osugrad21 . Pittman has been here since winter, I think Ross should of already felt that fire under his butt from pittman by now don't you guys think? I think we just need to split the carries up. For 2 reasons. 1) Keep them fresh, and 2) Its a change of pace we all know that pittman is a scat back and lydel is suppose to be our power back. The scary thing is if we add Joe to the mix in 2 weeks we have 3 options. 1)Speed, 2)Power, 3) Combonation.
Its still a young season but I think Lydel has had his chance in the spot light why not just give someone else like 10-15 carries a game?

Buk I see what you mean bro, but we all know JT is loyal to the seniors and Lydell knows that too. He may think that his carries might get cut, I was alluding to the starting position itself. If Ross gets the bench or at least feels it is a definite possibility...it may light a fire.

Honestly, let me cut the BS. I am a Ross supporter and really want the kid to succeed. After these first few games, I am really grasping at straws.

No 8-man front today

NCState completely shut down our run game with their 7 man front. No 8th man needed.

I agree with the general sentiment here. Love Ross. Hate to see a CAPTAIN lose his starting position because of performance. But yes, it's come to that.

  • Start Lydell against Northwestern, but give Pittman equal carries (but perhaps less than equal snaps)
  • Let Pittman take the job from him
  • Feel bad for Lydell as he sees a freshman take his job for the second time

I don't think you need to take the starting roll away from Ross. Just use Pittman more. I don't think i'm for having Pittman be the featured back. Just use both...keep them fresh. I agree with giving the equal carries against Northwestern. Hopefully maybe they both can get close to 100 yards.

I would not start Ross for the fumbles ,not for his poor running performance. I belive our O-line is the main problem.

But I don't think anyone will do a great job as running back as with our line as long as defenses are keying on the run. They are taking that away and trying to make a freshman Quaterback beat them.
