RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I was especially surprised they went with Mo Wells in that situation, given the fact that he is not known for his inside running nor tackle breaking abilities.

I think JT was challenging his O line to get the first down, regardless of who is running it.
He's done it before.

We were lousy at the beginning of last season on short yardage situations, too. I think JT's mindset is, on a play like that, if we execute the play like we should, it shouldn't matter if the other team knows what's coming or not.

If I remember correctly, we ran that play behind Person.
In the second half (really starting in the second quarter) Boone and Rehring were dominating their side. I feel alot better when we run left, especially in short yardage.

What killed our running game in the first half wasn't so much the point of attack, but the backside pursuit.
It literally killed us the whole first half. The backside never sealed off the pursuit and they ran it down from behind, or there were no cut backs.
In the second half, we started running different plays (sprint draws) and blocked them a little differently to correct that.

Totally agree on not sealing off the backside... Play after play after play backside persuit was there and credit OU for getting there and making the play.

Agreed to a point. We run that power O with a guard pulling in those situations. I am sure I am too old school, but really we need to do that. Short yardage vs teams like Ohio and YSU it should be a simple beef vs beef and lets win. Perhaps I answered my own questions and we can't do that vs the better fronts we will face like USC etc but it something that stood out to me this week.

That picture makes me think that Jim Tressel was just nervous about losing Beanie for USC's game so he wants to withhold Beanie from Ohio's game in order to make sure that he'll be 100% by then. Even if he wasn't really injured enough to miss the game against Ohio.

That tends to be the vibe I got

Everyone knows Beanie can play, no reason to have him in there at risk when hes not needed, even if he almost was.

He also ran out with the team prior to kickoff (which none of the other injured players did)

Been digging around to try and find out if Beanie practiced today. Got to say from what I saw from him on the sideline Saturday, especially in the second half, I would think he is good to go.

Just lying in the weeds.
