RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

In my opinion, Beanie's Heisman campaign began today. Yes, he had a solid week last week before he went down. However, he was greatly missed, and his presence makes a huge difference. the Buckeyes are a completely different team with him.

USC will be his week to state his Heisman case, and yes, he will play. There is too much on the line.

'Beanie' fires up teammates during victory

COLUMBUS Chris "Beanie" Wells wore his jersey over street clothes, yet still impacted his Ohio State teammates from the sideline and in the locker room.

The Buckeyes tailback, who sat out Saturday's 26-14 victory over Ohio with a foot injury, showed a little animation during the game. And when Ohio State went into halftime trailing, 7-6, Wells was not afraid to speak up.

"He was just trying to fire us up a little bit," quarterback Todd Boeckman said. "Everybody was down and tough on each other.

"He was actually pretty intense there, getting after us and yelling at us."

Wells was not walking with the protective boot he wore after injuring his foot in the season opener against Youngstown State. The Heisman Trophy candidate was not completely ruled out of the Ohio game until late in the week.

Now all eyes will focus on Wells' availability for Saturday's showdown at top-ranked Southern California. Boeckman thinks there is a chance Wells will play.

"He's been moving around fairly well," Boeckman said. "I don't know what his prognosis is now, but hopefully."

We need Beanies mentality in the USC game. When he gets a touchdown, no celebrating, just going right back to the bench, We got a job to do a game to win.

Yeah I completely agree. We need a [censored]ed off Beanie going into this game. If we give Beanie 35 carries we win this game, no doubt about it. The mentality of the game planning should be that if we are not good enough to win with Beanie, we probably don't deserve to win anyway. Beanie was on his way to 200+ yards against LSU when we decided to get cute. That is the singular reason for our loss to LSU, and I don't want a repeat of that ever again.

At the very least, you know, I think that needs to be the plan going in. If for no other reason, to let the OL know that the "plan" is to punch them in the mouth early and often.... And let them know that, hey, Beanie might be limited... so... we need 3 yards a carry from YOU, and let Beanie get what he can get after that... so... you better get your ass out there and move some people.

Absolutely. You can definitely dictate the mentality of the team with the type of game plan you call. If our bread and butter isn't good enough, so be it. But don't leave your best player out of the game this time or leave any yards out on the field.

Yeah, I agree completely. I think... and part of this might be philosophy (as in it needs to develop throughout the season) but, sometimes I feel like (especially on offense) there's a lack of clear definition of what it is Ohio State is going to be.

I understand that on one hand it'd dangerous to say you're only a smashmouth team or a gun-slinging team or whatever, and you want to be what you need to be at any given time... but... sometimes I feel like there's a lack of a "default identity"

Having said that, I believe that we've seen a lot of smoke and mirrors the forst two weeks... but... I also worry that sometimes Tressel and company overthink things just a bit.

Paul Brown once said it, and Beanie definately embodies it, "Act like you've been there before."

I agree. On offense we can't abandon the running so early, as it seems we do when we get down. Also, defensively, I'd like to see more. We really need to get after Dirty Sanchez. I hate when we sit in a zone, and not pressure the QB, it's a waste of the talent and team speed we have, IMO.

+1

I find it odd that after what seemed to me to be alot of Singleback Two TE sets and I-form, that we are going more to 5 Wide Empty Backfields, especially on 3rd and short. I know tOSU has ran Spread O's before, but this team is run first, open up the play action later. Even against OU, when the O started going to a more physical run game, the team started scoring. Other than the stopped run on 4th and 1.

I was especially surprised they went with Mo Wells in that situation, given the fact that he is not known for his inside running nor tackle breaking abilities.
