RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

Heisman Pundit has Beanie holding his #1 spot, despite injury questions

The HP Heisman Watch: Week One | Heismanpundit

1. Chris Wells, Ohio State--Wells holds on to the top spot this week, as we're taking his word that his foot is going to be okay. He most likely will miss the Ohio game this weekend, but that shouldn't affect his Heisman chances too much, as there is a precedent for Heisman winners missing early-season games (namely Charles White and Bo Jackson). It will, however, increase the stakes for the huge matchup the following Saturday at No. 1 USC. He must do well (100+ yards) in a Buckeye win, or go crazy (180+ yards) in a close Buckeye loss, to solidify his status as the Heisman frontrunner.

Cont'd ...

Unless he's 150% before Saturday, I don't think Tressel will play him. Which is a good thing. I'd rather have him ready and itching to go next Saturday against USC rather than taking a risk and having him possibly re injuring or making it worse. Beanie get better, hopefully see you in action next Saturday

Coach just said on his call in show that Beanie will not play Saturday, but is improving daily.

That's pretty good news IMO. I'd rather see him sit this game out and let him completely heal, that way he is 150% for next weeks big game.

Jim Tressel: Beanie Wells will not play Saturday
by Doug Lesmerises
Thursday September 04, 2008

Running back Beanie Wells will not play against Ohio on Saturday, Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel said on his radio show today.
Tressel said Wells is progressing with his rehab but has not practiced, so therefore he will not play. Wells is expected to return for the Sept. 13 game at No. 1 Southern Cal.

On Wednesday, Wells did attend team meetings and riding an exercise bike on the side during practice.

Tressel said this week the injury on the pad of his right foot at the base of his big toe. Tressel also said he did not know the medical diagnosis.

"You can make it worse if you make the pain worse," Tressel said this week. "And that's a limiting factor in his ability to participate and function really well," Tressel said. "You do have the concern about further injury, whether it's soft tissue or whatever it is, because there's a point, no matter how tough he is, that's his bread and butter, to put his foot on the ground and run."

Tressel said Wells was in and out of his protective boot, and he hoped his player was following protocol.

"I would just as soon have him in the boot all time," Tressel said, "because that is going to take as much pressure off as possible."

Boy this is great great news. Does anyone think Saine could handle a full load or is he a HB by committee back?
The question is whether Saine can handle x number of carries on his hamstring, because he should rest for USC if not needed as well.

Ohio U is going to get a healthy dose of Boom and Mo.
