RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

My favorite Wells story

At the open practice in 2006 when the players were on their way to the field they began to make their way to the locker room before practice under the stands and a rock star type handshake line formed. Wells came thru and was slapping hands and a kid next to me(8-10 yrs old) with his dad had a football and a sharpie. Wells stopped signed it gave it back to the kid. On his way by he slapped my hand and his palm hit my fingers but his fingers hit 3-4 inches up my arm(HUGE MITTS) the kid then turns to his dad and says "I don't even know who that was?!?!" I had to do everything in my power from trying to give that kid 10 bucks for that football knowing that the next Eddie George just signed it.

I definitely think wells will be ready because the only plays I remember him having the ball in last years title game were the 2 downs(3rd and 4th) where we missed the first at the end of the half. Just more motivation.

Ohio State sophomore tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells has had a phenomenal season.
Even though he plays for last year?s runner-up and a current national heavyweight, most media members don?t feel that he is worthy of award nomination, or, well, mention.

Can anyone tell me why?

Wells, a 6?1? 235 pound absolute TANK, with Bo Jackson-like breakaway speed and Gale Sayers-esque cutback ability, has the numbers. The 19-year-old barbarian has ripped off 1463 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging nearly six yards per carry.

Beanie is the most versatile back in the land. He can cut back, he can bounce it outside, or he can bust right through your whole family. He?s the surest thing on a third-and-one in the nation.

In Ohio State?s last five games of the season?against the five teams chasing them for the Big Ten title, Beanie strapped the Scarlet and Gray to his massive, Herculean back and rampaged his way to 164 ypg and eight touchdowns?including 220+ yards vs. BOTH Michigan teams!

No Buckeye running back ever?not two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin, not Eddie George, NOBODY?has ever rushed for 222 yards against the Wolverines. And he did it in their house, in a game when Michigan loaded the box with 8 or 9 guys all day because his QB was only able to muster 50 yards passing.

If that?s not enough, how about his health? Does anybody even know what this mammoth teenage freak-of-nature has been dealing with all season? Of course not, because the average fan doesn?t even know who he is.

Well, I?ll be the messenger. Beanie has had a bum ankle the entire season. It will require surgery in the off-season. Every time he gets tackled, he gets up gingerly and limps back to the huddle.

And then the next play he either splits a safety in half, or snaps a linebacker?s ankles with a seemingly mythical cutback. A man his size should not be THIS fleet of foot?especially with torn ligaments in his ankle!!

That?s not enough? A few weeks ago (he?s not sure which game it happened), Wells broke a bone in his right hand. It showed up on an x-ray following the 14-3 savage domination in Ann Arbor.

He managed to carry the ball 39 times in that game, and never fumbled once. In fact, his last fumble was all the way back five games ago against Michigan State. That hand will likely join his ankle under the knife following the season.
In essence, Chris "Beanie" Wells is a superhero. So why is this gigantic monster cracking sternums under the radar? The fact is, folk: We have a Jim Brown clone on our hands. The combination of size, speed, quickness, and toughness that Beanie Wells possesses comes along once in a generation.

He?s here, America. Take notice. LSU?s "vaunted" defense is next on his list.

You ready, Glenn Dorsey? You better pack a lunch, son.

i've been around beanie once. i was at eddie's watching the bb NC game, an the place was PACKED. Beanie came in with some other guys i didn't recognize, and was trying to make his way through the crowd, which, for a guy his size, was pretty difficult to do. i was pretty impressed by the way he never raised his voice or pushed anyone or even seemed to get even slightly annoyed by all the attention he was getting.

after the game (sad face), everyone's leaving and i see him going out and say "see ya Beanie" and he immediately responds with a nod and a "see ya". i dunno, it's not much, but little things like that tell me what kind of guy he is.

i can't imagine anyone woring harder on the football team during the next month than that guy.

Do you think they are going to open up the offense with a change of pace w/ Saine in there? Or just a steady diet of Beanie?

Saine would open up the play action pass...he has tremendous pass catching ability...sure hope they use him and Small...effectively!

I mentioned this in another thread and with some reflection from another great poster here, Tressel has got to have so many tricks stuffed in that vest since all we did was pound it against scUM. I am sure that beanie will be a big part but never underestimate the sneakiness of a sweater vest! If Saine has his agressiveness back he'll be in the mix alot.

That's what I was thinkin. The only wrinkles we saw against UM was a couple failed revereses. The crappy weather that probably kept us from using other plays may be come in handy against LSU as we may potentially have more stuff to throw at them.

ALL AMERICAN IN MY BOOK

Can't believe he was only mentioned in one of those all american lists. One question for those that pick the teams, how many games did OSU win because, of his playing and to make it to the NATIONAL TITLE.:( Should have been at least 2nd team and before, Hartless/rice
