RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I'll simply give you the expected, canned response: "Your defense hasn't seen a 240-pound 4.5-speed RB who can carry the ball 40 times in a game with no problems".

McFadden is the only back I would put above Beanie at this juncture that you played.

So while Beanie isn't the all around talent that McFadden is, I think the OSU offense is better than the Arkansas offense so that levels out a bit.

Should be interesting.

I'm going to build upon my above response. McFadden ran for 206 yards and 3 TDs on 32 carries, at your house. He even took snaps as the QB. You knew he was going to run, and still couldn't stop him. That was a game you had to have in order to make it to the NC game (at least, that's how it really appeared at the time), and yet you couldn't close the deal. It's by no means a stretch of the imagination to think that Beanie can get 150+ yards if he carries the ball 30+ times...

That makes my point. He is an exceptional talent and he only put up 206 against a physically whipped defense. McFadden dropped 300+ on South Carolina.... Wells with either have to beat 8 in the box or your QB needs to have a good game to loosen up LSU's defense. If one of those happens I agree, 150+ is very possible but not likely. If he puts up 115, you guys have a very good chance of winning...

How was your defense "physically whipped"? You mean by Arkansas or by the attrition of the season?

Or both, the OSU offense is not one dimensional. They have weapons across the board, some that are still waiting for that big game. Wells may have a big game and the QB may loosen up the defense. Then there could also be another RB or WR that steps up and has his break out game.

They didn't need the passing game against scUM because Beanie had a 200 + game. The weather was bad and the pass wasn't going to get it done. The weather won't be a factor on Jan 7th. I fully expect a balanced attack, and LSU should expect a full diet of the two Wells and the two Brians. Or maybe Zoom and Dane, or Ray and Zoom. When both are working, the dogs of hell are unleashed.

Go Bucks. :osu:

You ever think that Arkansas' offense wasy physically whipped by that point as well? What bout Arkansas' defense as well? This is football, and everyone by the end of the year is hurting and gutting it out. That's a cope out to why your defense couldn't stop a teams only threat, and why you lost the game.

OSU didn't lose the Illinois game because we were physically spent (although I would've liked us to be healthier) we lost because Illinois wanted it more that day plain and simple.

Maybe, just maybe your defense knew what was coming but was just powerless to stop it? If thats the case stopping a running back nearly 25-30 pounds heavier than Mcfadden will not be an easy chore, especially late in the game, and regardless if you know he's coming or not.

Attrition of the season piled on by that game. Also, remember McFadden needed 3 overtimes to put up his yards on the LSU defense. I think Wells will get close to the century mark, I just do not see him going for 150+.

LSU has seen a Wells type of runner. HB 24 Anthony Dixon 6-1 240 runs about a 4.5. Dixon is an absolute monster and very responsible for most of State's wins this year. Granted, State's OLine is not as good as OSU, but I do not think LSU will be afraid to tackle Wells in the 1st or 4th quarter as suggested in an earlier post. The key to managing Dixon's power was 8 in the box, get up 2 scores and make the opponent throw the ball. Once you have that situation, pin your ears back and get after the QB. The best defense against a Wells type runner is put pts on the board and make that team throw the ball. I really think OSU will need to pass successfully to setup the run for Wells.

Uh, McFadden had 180 yards on 26 carries (6.92 ypc) in regulation. Unless we fall way behind early or our passing game is insanely lights-out, I can all but guarantee you that Beanie will have around 30 carries...

Beanie Wells is just plain amazing. He's one of the few to be able to cut through Penn State's powerful defense. With the Ohio State team you have this year (one that prevented a Penn State running game for most of the game and at the same time never had to punt against Penn State), the Tigers are going to get poisoned by some Buckeyes they couldn't digest.

yeah you have to remember that in overtime they're only going 25 yards, and Felix jones also had a good bit of yards in that overtime as well. I'm not saying that LSU is going to be afraid to tackle him, but rather as the game wares on they won't be able to tackle him (if we're winning of course). Kids like beanie get stronger as the game goes because running into a 240 pound guy can really suck by the time the 4th quarter runs around. Dixon is a decent runner, but he lacks both the speed and vision that our big back has. I believe beanie's speed will surprise some of you guys as well.
