RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

But it's not consistent with his or previous OSU coaches disciplinary actions of the past. A DUI, for example, is infinitely times worse than this silliness. Yet, Urban and Tressel have given DUI offenders a game or two at most. I also disagree with your assertion of Hyde violating any "core values." There was nothing "violent" about what Hyde did on that tape. He's being punished for embarassing the program at a time when Coach Meyer is under heavy scrutiny.

If true, I'm still okay with it.

And? Change was needed.

This a thousand times over.

Two things were clear. The way discipline was handled previously (at least at Florida) by UM needed to change. The way discipline was handled previously by Ohio State (particularly as it related to "star" players) needed to change. I applaud Urban Meyer for recognizing both and making the appropriate changes.

Carlos Hyde's life is not coming to an abrupt end. He'll still get to play out most of his senior season. He'll still get his shot at the NFL. If it's important to him, he'll still get his chance to complete a degree at Ohio State.

Some need to stop pretending that he's a victim in all of this. The only people for whom I'll feel sorry are his teammates should his absence lead to losing one of those games during his suspension.

Serious question for those who think this decision isn't based on Urban being scrutinized by the media over his lack of discipline while at Florida.

Let's pretend the "victim" in this case decides to tell no one and just go about her business.

One day, let's say mid-season to spice it up :) , Coach Meyer is sent the surveillance video from Sugar Bar with a note from the owner that communicates his concern for an incident involving one of his football players.

Now, I ask you, after watching the video alone in his office, what punishment does Urban give Hyde under these circumstances?

Lets ask Mindy.

People change

Situations change

Circumstances change

Environments change

The only consistent thing in this world is change. Change is in the Alma Mater after all.

This.

And those refusing to change will be left behind. Hyde essentially got a slap for a slap. Completely fair IMO & sets an example that BS like this won't be tolerated.

Not sure at all where you are going here. You seem to be suggesting that Urban is a complete sham who only does what he has to do to please the public. I think you need some pretty solid arguments to back that up - not just an "I think this is harsh" rant.

I think this is a bit on the harsh side. But I don't think it is unreasonable. Nor is Urban enforcing legal statutes. From his perspective it is quite reasonable to treat a fifth year senior more harshly than an incoming Frosh.

As stated what JT did is completely irrelevant. Nor is what happened with Urban at other programs binding now. You live, you learn, you change.

Could he be catering to the media? I suppose. But I don't see any evidence to support that accusation - and it is an accusation.

To the "Core Value" enthusiasts, straight from Meyer's mouth:

"As I had indicated previously, if there are changes in the charges against Storm, I would re-evaluate his status," Meyer said in a school release. "The charges that would have violated our core values have been totally dismissed."

http://espn.go.com/college-football...-state-reinstates-linebacker-storm-klein-team

If you're going to quote, quote the entire article....

Klein will continue to face discipline that includes a minimum two-game suspension. But he is again a member of the team after missing a month of offseason workouts and all of training camp this month.

Klein still served a two game suspension after Coach Meyer had talked to the families of both parties involved & the charges were dropped. Carlos gets an additional game, probably because he was caught on camera. Try again comparing Carlos to someone else.....

I quoted the part that directly referred to Meyer's statement on HIS core values. One has to be CHARGED with domestic battery to violate HIS core value policy. This is crystal clear to me. Again, Carlos was charged with NOTHING. Klein was CONVICTED of an actual crime.

1. klein was not convicted of domestic violence. he plead to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge as the female in the case chose to not pursue charges. a female chose not to pursue charges, in no way was that related to hyde.

2. if storm klein was caught on video like carlos hyde, he would have gotten more than 2 games. why you don't get this is puzzling.
