Naples fullback Hyde verbally commits to Ohio State
Craig Handel ? [email protected] ? June 23, 2008

Naples High fullback Carlos Hyde has given a verbal commitment to Ohio State, said Bill Kramer, Naples? football coach.

A 6-foot-1, 230-pounder, Hyde took a visit to an unofficial visit to Ohio State this weekend, Kramer said. While his grandparents live in Naples, his parents live in Cincinnati.

Hyde spent the weekend with Terrelle Pryor, the Buckeyes? highly acclaimed freshman quarterback.

?He really hit it off with him,? Kramer said. ?They talked about winning a national championship at Ohio State.

?He?s pretty fired up; but he also understands and responsibilities.?

Naples star Carlos Hyde headed to Ohio State
Standout fullback gives verbal commitment
By Craig Handel ? [email protected] ? June 24, 2008

When Naples' Carlos Hyde made an unofficial visit to Ohio State this weekend, he had pretty good company escorting him around campus.

Buckeyes incoming quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who postponed his signing in February before committing to Ohio State, was Hyde's host. He must have made a good impression because Hyde verbally offered to play for the Buckeyes.

"(Carlos) really hit it off with him," Kramer said. "They talked about winning a national championship at Ohio State.

"He's pretty fired up; but he also understands the responsibilities and obligations. I reminded him, 'Carlos, when you go from high school to a school that's one of the top in the country, you can never be tired, never be tired of running. You have to make that your focus.' He understands that."

Hyde wasn't available for comment.

Kramer added one person who he thinks will help guide Hyde is fellow Southwest Florida player Brian Rolle. The Immokalee High graduate will be a sophomore linebacker at Ohio State.

"Brian is that kind of guy, a top-shelf guy, who we're fortunate will help Carlos along," he said.

His verbal, the capper on what was truly a life-changing trip to visit his mother in the Queen City last week, made him the 19th commitment for the Buckeyes recruiting class of 2009.

Does anybody have any inside info on this situation? Sounds like there's a great heartwarming story there possibly.

That might be why he stayed in Cinci for a few extra days before heading up to C-Bus. Goes to show how crazy recruitniks can be. We were all worried about him staying with the family instead of taking his visit and it turns out that that was what sealed the deal.

I just watched his film... oh my god... Seriously this guy's film was better than beanie's I thought. Does this kid run with a purpose or what? Not only does he have power, but the vision he displays is outstanding. Wow I just thought "eh must be an average RB" but gosh I dunno if i've ever been more impressed by a film. By the way he's got some jets too!!

Carlos and Pryor would just be such a mismatch for everyone else. Oh then you still have that Saine guy, and Boom Herron.

Can't wait for you to get here Carlos! GO BUCKS!

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here...Hyde doesn't have the speed that Beanie has...

Hyde averaged 3.5 yds/carry in the playoffs, while hte other back on his team averaged 10...He has solid film, and is a bruising back, but not in the same mold as Beanie, IMHO...Basically what I am saying is that Hyde is a good player, but I am not expecting him to be a top 10 pick after 3 seasons here...

Tough to expect that out of anyone, really.

I am really excited about Hyde, though. While he may not be in the same mold as Beanie, his combination of size and speed is pretty rare.. should be fun to watch him truck through defenders. What I'm more excited about is the diversity we're going to have in our backfield.. all of our guys are so different back there..

well I guess I'm not expecting him to be as good as beanie, but I was just so impressed by his vision and moves for a big man. Combining that with his speed and power and he's a really rare find. I think he'll do good things here though for some reason? As good as beanie? Doubt it, but who knows!

After watching his vid, I really am more reminded of Byars than Beanie.
