RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

I love Berry. Top 10 back, no questions asked. I mentioned this a while ago that it comes down to preference for me. Both possess rare skills but Hyde seems like a better fit in our system. Berry seems like a better fit in a spread offense like Florida's or WVU's.
Or the one we'll have when it becomes TP's show. :wink2:

Imagine a Hyde/Berry backfield with TP under center/behind the Block-O throwing to Posey, Stoney, Sanz, TWash, Fields, Carter et al...Yikes!

Wells' speed is generally underestimated but so is Hyde's. I saw the film too and I side more with BuckIpower. I think he looks fantastic. He is a top 10 back and a top 100 player. I think he has more moves than Beanie did at this time. Beanie either ran you over or ran by you. Hyde showed some ability to juke you in traffic. That's pretty amazing for a 6'0" 230 lbs junior who isn't close to peaking athletically. I won't predict Hyde to have the same success Beanie has had but I can't rule it out either.

Don't think Beanie is faster than Pitt in the 40 either. It's close but if anything he's a tad slower.

The first clip really shows off his straightline speed. That isn't some big slug like P.J. Hill or Javorskie Lane. That looks like 4.5 speed. The guy chasing him just happens to also be a burner and looks about 40 lbs lighter.

Watch the move in the next clip at 44 seconds. He splits two defenders with a 3rd not far behind and doesn't lose much speed getting out of his cuts. You don't see that from HS backs his size everyday.

At the 1:55 mark he is able to get to the corner.

The run at 2:40 is another that shows he can maneuver in in tight space.

Same with the next one.

Just about every play in that video is really impressive. I like him more than Berry and that's saying something.
did you ever see beanie play in hs? your grandmother could have started at left tackle on his hoban team...

Yes. Not sure what that has to do with what I said...
when comparing the running style of the two at the high school level. beanie didnt have time to sit around all day and wait he just ran at you. it was student body right, student body left...

and i had to quote somebody and i didnt feel like quoting you guys quoting each other. i wasnt calling you out just generally quoting something from the last page to carry the conversation as it had shifted a tad.

We are talking about a solid 4 star RB top 200 player in the country vs. the #1 player in the country as a high school senior...

.../snip/...

I just think comparing him to Beanie and MoC who are top 5 Rb's on tOSU list in terms of talent that ever played here, is a bit premature...

It might be worth noting that both Reecie & Beanie were listed as the #1-#2 FB by the recruiting services and didn't shoot up the "overall" board until very late in the process.

Here's to Hyde being the measuring stick moving forward, instead of the compared party.

Naples High running back Hyde verbally commits to Ohio State

Carlos Hyde had been watching those big-but-blazing Buckeyes running backs since he was little.
As it turns out, hi-def's got nothing on The Horseshoe.

"We walked through the bleachers, and when we came out it was like, "Wow ... this field's big," the Naples High running back said. "They had the turf and all that. Then when we walked down to the middle of the field and I stood on that O? I could just see myself running down that field with the fans going crazy."

That vision, plus an instant attraction to campus, Jim Tressel's program and a chance to return to the state where he was raised was all Hyde needed to give Ohio State his verbal commitment on Sunday.

Cont...
As a junior, he averaged nearly seven yards per carry and often inflicted more damage than his would-be tacklers. Recruiting services list his 40-yard dash time in the 4.6-second range, meaning he’s got the speed and size to follow in the mold of big-bodied Buckeyes Eddie George, Maurice Clarett and Keith Byars, among others.

“That’s what impressed me, that they’ve got so much love for big running backs,” Hyde said. “I love just pounding people, and now I get to go to a school where so many great people have come from.”
