NFL scouts would be grading him on mere glimpses within a season. He split playing time with Joe Bauserman during his freshman year, and he admitted that he might have been better served by watching and learning from the sideline. As a sophomore, he was handed the reins to a brand new offense, one completely different than the system he learned the year before. Meyer has praised Miller's growth over the last year and his ability to grasp the offense, but then Miller missed three games with a sprained knee, which also limited his mobility once he returned to the lineup. He could use one more year to polish his game and piece together one shining season. Perhaps he can add some hardware along the way. He would likely be a Heisman Trophy favorite if he returned.

Meyer said that he has no doubt in his mind that Miller is an NFL quarterback, but he did say that he doesn't think Miller is ready for that step yet. The biggest takeaway for Meyer in regards to Miller is that he is having fun playing the game again, and you can feel that.
• Miller said he may use the 1969 game later in the week as a reminder of what can happen in this rivalry in regards to underdogs pulling upsets. In 1969, Michigan ended Ohio State's 22-game winning streak with perhaps the biggest upset in the history of the series.
