QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I have to say, that was the most fun I've had watching a game. I rooted for a team I have hated my whole life (started life as a Bengals fan). Troy Smith played like he always has. I have to think Singletary will give the job to a guy who smacks DTs when given the chance.

Troy Smith has been able to win over teamates everywhere he has been. He can rally his troops, and make people follow him through hell and back. Not many people have that trait. Not like Troy does. He may not be as talented as Peyton Manning, as poised as Brees, but he makes his team believe and improve them just by his leadership.

Awesome to see Troy get his chance!

I just hope Singletary keeps giving him opportunities and that Troy makes the best of them. I have been rooting hard for him to get a chance as a starter somewhere, and on a team with young potential like San Fran, not to mention a reunion with Teddy Ginn, is almost too good to be true.

Big win for Troy and the 9ers today. He's going to be the starter from here on out this year unless he can't do it. Real good opportunity for him.

He laughed in his postgame presser today when someone asked him if playing in front of such a big crowd bothered him b/c "The Ohio State University has 100,000 fans every game." He also said he was going to have some fun in Piccadilly Circus with the boys after the game. Bully for him.

Heh yeah that throw to the tight end was no no no don't do that oh yes he caught it.

I remember a certain throw by Krenzel against Purdue where I had the exact same reaction. :) Granted, that was a better throw by Craig in that situation, but I was still sayin' no no no the whole way.

Troy's passer rating yesterday was 115.2.

Alex Smith has topped a 115 PE rating only twice in 50 career starts.

Prior to yesterday, Troy's last NFL start was way back in Week 17 of 2007, when he lead the Ravens to a win over a Steelers squad that was resting starters. Troy's passer rating that day was 90.2.

Alex Smith has topped a 90 PE rating only twelve times.

FWIW, an NFL league average PE rating is ~84.

Alex Smith has gone north of 84 a grand total of nineteen times.

Troy should have a stranglehold on the job for the remainder of the year. Even if he goes out and lays a dud in his next three straight starts and throws 7 INTs, his career trajectory would be on par with Alex Smith's over the previous six years, so really ... what do the 49ers have to lose? I don't think anybody should *give* him a job, but I hope he gets at least a couple opportunities to pick himself up if he fails.

The niners don't have 50 million plus invested in Troy though...which may or may not come into play if Troy begins to look on par with Alex Smith. Just sayin.'

Alex Smith isnt a rookie either any more and This coaching staff did not draft Smith either, they did bring in Troy Smith however after he was cut, they diid move Troy Smith over second string David Carr. Just Saying
