QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Would be awesome if it happened.

Great for you because you are not a Browns or Bengals fan like a majority of the fans on this site. Sure, it is a great fit for him but it effectively ends our chances of rooting for one of our all time fav's to win.

I know it is a great fit, but I'd really like to root each and every week for TS to win. Please put him in the NFC! How about Washington to spite you Eagles fan!!!!!

As for his chances of landing in the first round, it all comes down to this. It will take one team at the back end of the first to really target him. They are going to have to believe he won't make it to the back end of the second or they won't be able to work a trade at the top of the second. We can eliminate the top 15-20 picks in the first because they will likely feel they can get him in the second. The only other chance is if a team is willing to swap to grab him, likely a middle round team sliding down via trade and picking him at the bottom of the first.

In the end, it would be a shame to see him not get the respect of a first round pick, but it isn't going to effect his career. He'll still be the same driven and focused Troy, class act, study addict and all.

They have a young starting QB in Campbell. I'd rather he didn't ride the pine for a decade.

STILL UNPROVEN

One might think Troy Smith and Chris Leak have shown the NFL they're ready to step up. Not quite, yet, but they're used to answering doubters.
Thursday, January 25, 2007By Billy Turner

MOBILE, ALA. -- He's short for his position.
He has a strong arm, quick feet and his leadership skills are off the board.
He is a winner.

But he's short for his position. So he must fight and prove himself again.
Who is he?
He could be Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith of Ohio State. Smith completed 65 percent of his passes as a senior, passing for 2,542 yards. He was selected the top college football player for his 35 touchdown passes and for leading Ohio State to an unbeaten regular season. Smith finished 10-1 as a starter against teams ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Or he could be former Florida quarterback Chris Leak, who passed for 2,942 yards as a senior, 11,213 yards for his career. More importantly, he was the quarterback of the Florida team that beat Smith's Buckeyes in the BCS championship game.
But at the 2007 Under Armour Senior Bowl, National Football League scouts continue to measure them, scrutinize them, interview them.
Neither is surprised that after all this time there still is more to be proven.

Leak, Smith now are facing taller obstacles

By BERNARD FERNANDEZ

MOBILE, Ala. - Could it be just 17 days ago that Troy Smith and Chris Leak, as the starting quarterbacks in the first BCS national championship game, were the central figures in the college football universe?
Smith entered that contest as the Heisman Trophy winner from Ohio State, a creative sort whose senior season had played out like a personal highlight reel. Leak was the record-breaking passer for Florida who outplayed Smith on the big stage in Glendale, Ariz., as the Gators dominated the Buckeyes to earn the crystal football that went to the best team in all the land.

Nice work; now prove yourselves
The BCS title game quarterbacks hope to change some minds .

MOBILE, Ala. - When we last saw Chris Leak, the University of Florida quarterback was flashing that wide smile that could make a marketing rep ponder the possibilities. He was holding the coveted BCS national championship trophy atop a stage, maybe even the world, after notching the biggest win of his career.
Troy Smith of Ohio State, Leak's counterpart, performed miserably. Yet perhaps the lasting image of his superb senior season was Smith being crowned the Heisman Trophy winner.

MOBILE, ALA. ? The latest head-to-head matchup of quarterbacks Chris Leak and Troy Smith was much closer than the first one.
The final score this time: Smith by an eighth of an inch.

Smith has shown similar qualities, plus better mobility in the pocket. But he struggled in cold, windy conditions Wednesday, throwing a few on interceptions in 7-on-7 passing drills.
"Today was a humbling thing," he said.

Well, I think after this little tidbit we can deduce that the Bengals will NOT be drafting Troy (wouldn't anyway, he doesn't have an arrest record):

One scout, the Bengals' Greg Seamon, was quoted on a Web site ridiculing Troy Smith as an overhyped Heisman-winning quarterback who would flop in the NFL or not make it at all.

:shake: They don't have arrest records before playing for the bengals.

Let's just say that I don't exactly give much credibility to a scout from a team that's had one winning season in its last sixteen.

In fairness, they do have two WR's from Oregon State on the same team. I wonder how many other scouts thought Chad and T.J. would be good.
