QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

My thoughts, which are biased by the local media here in Tampa Bay.

I would love to see him down here!

Simms looked very bad in 06 in the 3 games he played. TB had two rookies on the O-line in 06 and that is partially to blame for putting Simms out for the year with a lacerated spleen. In 05 he played well. I assume by the new contract TB gave him they still think he is a viable NFL QB.

Agreed on Gradkowski, he will likely not make the roster next year.

If TB drafts Troy it will be in round 2 due to a failure to land a big name QB in free agency. TB has a lot of needs and I can't see them using their first round pick on Troy.

Assuming he does get to TB, Gruden will not start a rookie unless he is forced to. This is the guy that dug up Rich Gannon off the AARP registry. Keep in mind if Gruden does not make it to the playoffs in 07 with a good showing he will most likely be fired. That guy likes verterans.

Just my thoughts.

It was brought up on an another thread and I really like the possibility. Top of the second round, TS to Detroit. I know everyone is automatically bring up Dt being a crap franchise, but I think Kitna would be a great mentor for TS. I couldn't think of anyone better to replace JT as his emotional leader. He did a great job in Cincy with Palmer. And I think Troy is going to need somebody to keep him in check the way that JT did.

As for TB, they have said all along they are going to resign Simms to a big contract. Makes it unlikely they'll put a high pick on a QB. Unless they have a big change of heart.

After reading this thread a few days, I feel much better listening to BP analysts than to all these talking heads who are trying to fill dead air.

Troy will go when Troy will go and it seems likely that it will not be first round due to his height. I'll say one thing. We all know what he is capable of and whoever gets him will be delighted that they made the pick.

To answere your earlier question, Woody Paige is no longer on Cold Pizza. He moved to Denver to be with his sick sister or something of the like. This week is has been Skip Bayless and Pat Forde.

I knew he moved back to Denver but I thought he was still involved with the show. Guess not. He still does "Around the Horn" though.

SENIOR BOWL
Smith's NFL draft stock? It's steady

Saturday, January 27, 2007 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Mobile, Ala.- Troy Smith shouted down the table to Drew Stanton, wanting to know where the Michigan State quarterback had gotten a hot dog.
After signing autographs for 90 minutes Friday for some of the longest lines the Senior Bowl's fan day had ever seen, Smith jumped up and took off on a food quest as the session ended, fans still screaming his name as he stopped to joke with Florida State linebacker Buster Davis and ducked into a photo op with 16 Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders.

I have been avoiding everything that might remind me of the debacle in the desert including not watching ESPN or any sports on the news whatsoever and abruptly changing the channel when anyone brings up college football at all!!!

I know others may feel similar but not go to this extrmre but...

After reading this thread, I feel like Jan. 8th "is what it is". The sadness I felt for Troy and the other seniors lingers a bit but I'm still a proud fan of this University and always will be.

Every saturday this year was an escape from the reality that these are just college kids playing a kids game. Troy's comments after the game are a refreshing reminder that he truly is one-of-a-kind.

Thank you Troy for an unforgettable season and best of luck in all you do.:osu:

Buckeye QB hopes to play for hometown Browns......

I don't have access to the premium sites, but I understand Troy has been dropping not so subtle hints that he'd like to play for the home team. My sense is the first round pick has to go to Joe Thomas or Levi Brown (OL). But if Troy is still available in the early second round, which seems to be the draft consensus, the Browns would be foolish not to take him.

Phil Savage seems to understand the importance of the homey connection; I'm hoping he bites.

Take Gonzo in the third round, if he's still available (Ginn will be gone by then), Patterson and/or Pitcock when they are available. Datish, Pittman, Mitchell, and Penton would all be good lower round picks to round out the roster. I mean, after all, Simon Fraser was an afterthought (undrafted), who has performed well.

Get the Bucks to the Browns!!
