How many defensive players in all the history of college football won a heisman? How many of those winners played defense only (not returning kicks, going both ways, etc.)?Buckeneye;979386; said:so watch out 08; We'd have 3 possible Heisman contenders; Beanie, Robo and Todd.
and those are just our offensive candidates!!
Boeckman Continues to Spearhead Improvement of OSU Offense
By John Porentas

It isn't like some princess somewhere kissed a frog and a handsome prince appeared, but it's close.
It was expected that Todd Boeckman would win the job as the starting quarterback in 2007. What wasn't expected was that nine games into the season, Boeckman would start to turn heads with his play.
Like frogs, first year starting quarterbacks are supposed to have their warts. They're not supposed to handle pressure, they're supposed to be turnover prone, they're supposed to be inaccurate with their passing, and they're supposed to make mistakes with their decision making.
Either Boeckman didn't get the memo, or the princess kissed him and turned him into a prince long before the book was anywhere near the end.
In his first season as a starter Boeckman is leading the Big Ten in passing efficiency and ranks third in the nation in that statistical category. He has thrown at least two touchdown passes in each game this season and executed the OSU passing game efficiently.
Cont'd ...
Boeckman has been pleasant surprise - The Boston GlobeBoeckman has been pleasant surprise
By Rusty Miller, Associated Press | November 2, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio - No one thought Ohio State or its quarterback would be all that good this season.
The Buckeyes lost a Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback and replaced him with a guy who had more birthdays (23) than he had minutes on the field (20).
Boy, were a lot of people wrong about the Buckeyes - and Todd Boeckman.

Did you guys know Krenzel majored in Molecular Genetics? I think I heard that once during a broadcast or something. You know, just throwing that out there, in case you didn't know Krenzel majored in Molecular Genetics.

Smith knew QB would excel, really
Former Buckeye high on Boeckman
November 3, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The proof is hard to find, so we'll simply take Troy Smith's word for it.
He knew all along that Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman would excel as his replacement.
"I'm able to brag about it now because I knew 110 percent what he was capable of at the beginning of the season," Smith said by telephone this week. "If you can, man, read some of the quotes. I've been the same way the whole time."
He agreed with the perception that Boeckman went from a game manager to a playmaker in one night.
"I started out like that, a little timid, just trying to make the right decisions," he recalled. "And then once you get comfortable, you come into your own and start to do things your way.
"Todd is more of a laid-back person in general. The thing I respect about him the most is his ability to stay even-keel and not show his emotions. Hopefully some of the things that I went through at Ohio State have helped him become the quarterback he is now."
