QB Todd Boeckman (official thread)

I must say, if for one was not very impressed with Todd's play in the first half. On 3 or 4 plays in the first half, he hung his reciever out to dry, and set up the receiver to get pummeled by the defender. One play, where Hartline had to wait for a pass over the middle and just got obliterated, Hartline got up and started screaming at Boeckman. After he completed that long pass to Small I think at the very end of the first half, he got some of his swagger back and looked much better. But I was constantly cringing in the first half because of the position Todd was putting his recievers in.

Kiper now has Todd as his No.1 Junior QB

greg (pleaseanswerme, please): How come Todd Boeckmann isn't getting the respect he deserves? Do you see him being a top prospect in next years draft, if he stays?

Mel Kiper: First of all, he's a fourth year junior. He'll be in the 2009 draft. On ESPN.com, the new rankings that will go up today, he is my No. 1 junior QB right now. He's been smart with the football. He's been accurate. The thing that impressed me against Wisconsin was when he made good decisions to tuck it in and run. His mobility in the game got my attention. He's really emerged this year.

Look for an ESPN interview of Todd by Desmond Howard this week/weekend. Part of it was filmed next to the Heisman display at the WHAC, and shown during halftime of the Ohio-Akron game tonight.

And there's no need to spew venom toward Desmond in this thread.

Desmond gets a free pass this time :grr:.....'cause:scum4:...

I tried to cover any and all spew posts all in one fare swoop.

I can't wait to see the interview. It will be nice for TB to get some love for once, now that he's 10-0. The Heisman part of it, well, whatever. Can't say it won't come up in the conversation, obviously. It is what it is I guess. Desmond seems like he's moving up in his ranks.

They know Todd's biggest game (besides the biggest game this week vs. Illinois) is in 10 days, and they will try to control what people think. The fact that Todd is getting the attention is almost justice. He is having a great season.

Desmond mentioned that he'd never been around that many "of these" (meaning Heisman Trophys) outside of New York.

He ain't lyin.

OSU 7 - '44 Horvath, '50 Janowicz, '55 Cassady, '74 AND '75 Griffin, '95 George, '06 Smith

Blew 3 - '40 Harmon, '91 Howard, '97 Woodson

I would take that as a final score, by the way :)

TB seemed to handle the pressure of road games well so far. 3 picks at purdue we could have done without but didn't really hurt us. came back in a hostile environment in washington. i'm excited to see how he handles first start in ann arbor (is a whore). the tradition, the rivalry, the crowd. he needs to approach it like every other game this year and he'll be fine. P.S. of course we have to pound illinois first :wink2:

Did anyone see the 6:00 sportscenter yesterday. They led off with "will the Heisman be back at OSU this year?" and showed some film of Boekman. I couldn't stick around for the story though because they would probably wait until 6:58 to actually talk about it .

Part of the attention is because the tOSU/Illini game is nationally on ABC/ESPN this week. They tend to hype a guy as a Heisman candidate for a few days before a game on ABC/ESPN, presumably in an attempt to boost ratings. It happened with Grothe of USF (at least in Joe Schad's mind), Ryan of BC, then Dennis Dixon (the deserved front-runner, but they hyped Ryan for a while first).
