Mel Kiper is high on The Todd.

Jim (OH): boeckman boeckman boeckman...how is he as a prospect?

Mel Kiper: Well, he's a junior. He has, for the first time this week will be moving into the top 5 list for juniors. Hunter Cantwell, Curtis Painter, Nate Longshore and Chase Daniel are the other four above him. He's done a good job. He's thrown some interceptions. He has size, a decent arm. Robiskie has really emerged as a junior WR. He has really come on. Nicol and Ballard, the TEs blocked really well. Having Beanie Wells running the football. And he has two bookend tackles. He's done a solid job. And he's only a junior.

Really, the only thing lacking in Boeckman's candidacy is a "Heisman moment" play. He's shown up big in all of our "first real tests". He's had no horrible your-campaign-is-over games, with the worst moment being MSU, and his performance has been not only steady, but key in OSU's dominance.

I think Todd had a Heisman or at least near heisman moment when he, after the officials felt like giving Penn a do-over and called back that robo TD in the third, threw the ball right back in to Ballard for a TD. He will not be denied.

Krenzel and TSmith both were at the top of the conference and at or near the top in the nation. Without looking it up, I think that they rank #1 and #2 in OSU history in that stat. He should remain near the NCAA lead in that, and may wind up at #1 in our record books as well.

Partly right...

ESPN Insider Film Room breaks down Boeckman (subscription required).

ESPN - McShay: Ohio State QB Boeckman impresses - College Football

Summary. It's going to take game-breaking DTs and some timely blitzing to beat the Buckeyes, because Boeckman is so quick through his reads, and Boone and Barton erase most DEs, Ohio State won't get 'upset' unless they take plays off (MSU) and allow a defense to get back in it. Boeckman has ideal size and is surprisingly imposing in person (3 inches taller and 11 pounds heavier than Chad Henne).

Curtis Painter above Boeckman? GTFOH...

Seriously...

Purdue is 59TH in the country and BELOW average in differential passing efficiency.

This basically means that Painter doesn't even manage the passing efficiency numbers that his opponents typically allow to everyone else.

What's worse is that his numbers vary so dramatically. Purdue butchers bad teams, but can't make a dent in a good defense (much less the Buckeyes).

Boeckman latest in long line of St. Henry heroes

By Tom Archdeacon
Staff Writer

Thursday, November 01, 2007

ST. HENRY ? These days ? at least up here ? even the best "I do" is no match for OSU.
"I went to a wedding over in Fort Recovery this past Saturday," said Al Stammen. "The place was packed, but then right before 8 p.m., the whole place emptied out. They had an open bar, but no TV, and it was time for Ohio State-Penn State.
"I felt sorry for the bride and groom, but I guess that's what they get for scheduling a wedding in the middle of football season."
Matt Stelzer ? standing across the bar from Stammen at Fish-Mo's, the St. Henry saloon he owns that's sort of the Smithsonian to suds and sports in this town ? agreed:
"We've had a lot of that this year. People say, 'What were you thinking?' "

OSU: Boeckman for Heisman?
Thursday, November 1, 2007
By Todd Porter
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS When Todd Boeckman took his first snap as Ohio State?s quarterback, he never expected to be Troy Smith.

Boeckman was supposed to be the protected link in the Buckeyes? offense, the guy who would be called on not to win games but not lose them either. So far, the first-year starter has won a few and hasn?t put the team in the position of losing any by his play.

Boeckman sneaking into Heisman race
JASON LLOYD, Morning Journal Writer
11/01/2007

COLUMBUS -- The only thing anyone knew for sure about Todd Boeckman nine games ago was that he was the oldest player on the team.

Nine wins later, he's gaining steam as a late write-in candidate on Heisman Trophy ballots. More incredible yet, one of his teammates is comparing him to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Boeckman is tied for sixth in the nation with 21 touchdown passes. He leads the Big Ten in passing efficiency and he has the full trust and support of coach Jim Tressel and his teammates. Particularly right tackle Kirk Barton.

If there is a writer out there who sits next to Jason in the post-game presser on Saturday, do him a favor: Introduce him to the Buckeyes' place kicker.

Comparisons to Brady don't go to modest Boeckman's head
November 1, 2007

He entered the game as a "manager"?football-speak for a quarterback who makes big plays as often as you see a full moon?and exited as a leader, an award candidate and an NFL prospect.

"Man, Todd's as cool as a ceiling fan," receiver Ray Small said hours after catching a 60-yard pass. "He's a cool dude, man. He's so laid-back and so smart. I just love having Todd on my side.

"If you drop a ball in practice or run the wrong route, he just comes to you and says: 'Pick it up.' He don't holler."

"When Todd was brought into that job, maybe not being a vocal guy, that wasn't really something he was comfortable with," Robiskie said. "But down the stretch [of games], he's on the sideline yelling at guys. I mean, telling guys what they need to be doing, firing them up."
