How so? By going out and getting a consensus top 3-5 QB?
Was that before or after Fields officially decided he was transferring here? If it was before, that's called recruiting and it's done everywhere. Even if it was after, I don't know why that matters. Urban isn't the coach anymore, Day is. I don't know what happened behind close doors, and neither do you, but Day said he would give everyone a fair shot to compete. My perception is that Tate talked a big game and then tucked his tail between his legs and ran instead of competing.
see...this is where I disagree. Day has coached this kid for two years and didn’t hesitate to pursue Fields. He knows what he had in Tate and that didn’t fit Day’s system at all. why even try to force the square peg into the round hole? OSU did not do Tate ‘dirty’. his scholarship was not pulled. the system/coach he was brought in to run changed. he decided to move on. good for him. but I don’t think for one minute this move wasnt calculated. Day knew Tate would likely transfer with Fields coming in. he weighed that option and went after Fields.Outside looking in, feels this was mishandled by staff... but i think he was gone after Spring anyway.
Learning moment for Day, hopefully.
Destination seems very questionable and he has to sit a 3rd year now before competing for a QB job... but i guess its personal for him. Enjoy the beaches, Tate.
Don't they do that with all big time recruits? I wouldn't be shocked if Tate himself was courtside during his recruiting process. Fields is currently a member of the OSU football team. At that time they were recruiting him.I mentioned the basketball game because he had posted on Instagram (since deleted) a photo of Urban, Fields, and Haskins courtside being displayed on the scoreboard at the Schott on Jan 5, taken from Tate's general admission seat in the 20th row.
It was the following day that this all blew up.
He was (presumably) fine competing with a transfer -- who also has issues if you watched Season 2 of QB1 on Netflix. He was not fine with Urban rubbing his nose in it and courting the competition. At that point competing was off the table; he wanted out, even if he had to sit a year.
In his view, Urban/Ohio State did him dirty. He wasn't even going to share a QB room with Fields after that. He was done. At least that's my read on it.
exactly.Go fuck up clemson and all shenanigans will be forgiven.
