QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

Correct, I attribute it to good sportsmanship and it has worked out overall, but it's not bad sportsmanship to have McCord throwing more aggressive passes to backups. If we have Stroud in up by 50 throwing deep passes, that is one thing. But any coach should understand developing a backup and getting them ready with live game reps, or they are just oblivious. Not directed at you obviously but it is a bit odd that we don't occasionally try some passes aside from a 5 yard out route when the backups come in.

Oh, I agree. I'm just stating that through 2 HCs, OSU uses their backup QBs as nothing more than guys who hand off the ball to RBs. It's always baffled me, because when that star QB moves on, we have no clue how good his backups are until the actual next season starts. And all we have to go on is their HS careers when trying to picture how they'll do in college, and the moment that new QB misses an open WR, or takes time to get comfortable, fans want him benched(look at the start of the 2021 season when fans wanted Stroud benched for McCord). I'd be fine if McCord could get 10-15 passes in blowouts to the backups

Our track record with starting QBs would say whatever choices the coaches are making... keep making them IMO

But you're referring to guys who were supposed to start, and most of us are referring to players coming off the bench and playing and getting meaningful snaps. And the backups have been a massive question mark. Just think when OSU nation held their breath against Clemson in 2020 when Fields went down, and an unknown frosh CJ Stroud came in. He was in no way ready to play any meaningful minutes.

If anyone thinks that we'll "keep on keepin' on" if McCord all of a sudden becomes our starter, I have a bridge to sell you...
I think that's fair. I think we'd continue to win, but it wouldn't be by 40 with six or seven TD passes. We'd be heavier in the run game and short/mid range passing, at least for awhile, and the defense would need to be even better. Never a good time for this to happen, but if there was ever a team and a season, given the competition out there, this would be it.

2014 was the year for it

Sure can't tell it's bye week.

Trust the coaches.

Lol, you ain't wrong. But I will add to the problem while I am here nonetheless. McCord is talented and if needed, I think he will get the job done. He is going to be our starter next year and probably another very good one at QB imo. The problem is that the coaches haven't given him a chance since the Akron game to work on mid-level to vertical throwing, or really let him throw a pass at all. The only times he got to throw the ball this year, the passes were shaky at best. Him coming in the game to hand the ball off to Hayden or some walk-ons does nothing to advance his development, which we need to be doing.

We'll call this "one of them good problems" because we are constantly in a position to put him in even after trying to get CJ his Heisman numbers. But when he goes in, we really need at least a drive or two to let him run the same offense that CJ is running, or else we might end up having to put him in against PSU or *ichigan in a critical situation where he has no live game reps having to throw the ball downfield, moreover not against a good defense. Would a few drives of letting Kyle do his thing against the Toledo and Rutgers of the world improve his game? Maybe not, but it sure wouldn't hurt.

Just sayin, mix the run and pass like you do with the starting offense and give McCord a chance to feel the offense, not 8,000 handoffs to backups.
