QB Joe Burrow (transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

I’m so rooting for Joey, but I really think was a low floor, low ceiling choice.

He isn’t going to light up the scoreboard in Baton Rouge, and there’s a legit chance he is booed off the field if things don’t click right off the bat.

Just a weird choice when there are so many teams that could allow him to put up video game numbers. LSU is laughable in this regard.

All that said, I hope
I’m wrong.

His final 4 schools came down to UC and LSU. Out of those, LSU will bring in the most talent to surround him with. LSU is in the middle of a talent hotbed, between the Greater Houston TX area, LA, and still being able to get TN kids, none of the other schools offer as much talent(possibly UF, but you're fighting 2 other in state football programs). I think LSU is a good choice, and his first game, should he win the spot will be a pretty big test for his first ever start.
UC is a nice story for him staying in state and playing for a former OSU coach, but he wouldn't have made UC that much better in the AAC with how bad most of their team is. UC is probably another 2 years away from making a serious move, I'm sure Burrow wanted to reach a NY6 bowl, play in front of 90,000+ on network TV, enjoy the spoils of being a starting QB for a major football program. Hard going from being in a QB battle at one of the premier football programs in America, to then going to a school that's the little cousin down the road...

They had Beckham, Landry, Hill surrounding Mettenberger in 2013. Hill was a stud and the other two have been monsters in the NFL.

That passing game ranked 92nd nationally. It's virtually impossible for them to replicate that kind of talent at wr, though they've had plenty over the years.

Hopefully Joe will thrive, and they've brought in absolutely no one at QB for many years, but that school's track record through the air is awful.

Also all of the chatter about talent ignores the opposing talent. At OSU, his team outpaces everyone on the schedule and only has a few that are even close. (Not that he should have stayed)

At LSU, Bama outclasses them, and UGA is loaded, while loads of other teams are capable of hauling in elite talent due to their regional surplus.

I hope I'm wronf, and maybe Joe can be the one to reverse the laughably bad passing offenses over the years.

Mettenberger.. that should tell you everything in regards to not utilizing the talent.

They litealy just haven't had any luck with QBs panning out. A couple dual threats guys that never panned out like Harris (I think that was him). I think Joe is on a different level then anything they've had lately.

Yeah with UC why go there and get your brains beat in by OSU Or larger D1 schools. Also it doesn't look like Luke has that much to work with yet and if you want to win and maybe get to a NY6 bowl you have to go to a bigger school.

Not to mention playing in at least a similar size stadium. I couldn't imagine going from 110k to maybe 30-40k consistently every week. Talk about a bummer.

Plus to get into the NFL .. If he crushes it at LSU he's a lock for the top few rounds.

Really can't wait to see him play.. I still maintain he was out better option but it worked out for both I think

All of that that you stated is true, and it is still a better reason to choose LSU over UC.
You gave me 4 players drafted to the NFL in probably the first 4 rounds, when has UC ever had 4 guys drafted in the same draft, let alone that high?
LSU is putrid at developing QBs, and UC is even worse(Gunner Kiel anyone, I think Ben Mauk was their last competent QB and he could barely sniff the CFL). If the choice was those 2 schools, than his decision was an easy one, IMO. Fickell isn't close to making UC a contender in even the AAC for the next few years, why would Burrow waste his time getting bludgeoned against average competition, when he can at least compete for an above average program and get seen on a bigger stage. UC was a nice story, and that was about it.

You may mean Russell Shepherd as well.

And I agree with all you said, especially going from a decrease in stadium size, and getting to the NFL(yes I know though, the NFL will find you wherever, but its much easier at a name brand school)
